BEENLEIGH ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY
The Mabel Park-Keebra Park clash was a ripper, with Mabel Park skipping out of the blocks early before Keebra Park gathered themselves to work their way back into the contest at halftime.
It then came down to a second half shootout, with Keebra Park scoring late to snatch a draw.
Keebra Park SHS coach Nathan Small was pleased with his team’s tenacity after entering the game minus six players from round one.
“It was a big effort,’’ Small said. “If we win next week we will remain the undefeated side and we will do everything we can to shore up a first or second sport. I am just hoping we get some troops back.
Small said he wanted more work done with their defensive line speed, but was pleased with the manner in which the side shifted the ball to its edges.
Marsden SHS coach Keeown Rawnsley said her side did not play to the best of their ability but praised Beenleigh for their persistent efforts.
Like Keebra Park, Beenleigh are injury-ravaged and hope to get some players back for next Wednesday’s encounter against Keebra Park.
Rawnsley said her side was strong through the middle but execution was lacking when the ball was shifted to the edges.
“Next week is the big one. We play Mabel Park SHS at Mabel Park and it will determine who makes the final.’’
In the boys competition, Chisholm College finished with a wet sail to win 18-12 against the Men of Business Academy, with two tries in the finish five minutes.
“It was an arm wrestle and we got the chocolates in the end,’’ said Chisholm College coach Tom Philpot.
Coming off a win over St Francis, Chisholm built on that victory to set up showdown with Beenleigh’s Trinty College to see who progresses into the final.
“We were pleased with the defence, particularly the middles,’’ Philpot said.
“There was good contact from our front rowers and hooker and we really stayed in the grind.
“We were down 12-10 with five minutes to go and came back to win.’
