“The girls have built strong friendships they share off the field and the connection they have with the footy on it,’’ said Beenleigh principal Matt O’Hanlon in relation to the group.
“In 2018 and 19 they made the finals of the Karen Murphy Cup at year 10 level and are hungry to build on this success over the next two seasons
Beenleigh will be spearheaded by halfback Emma Barnes and barnstorming front rower Angel Kirikava.
Coach Hayden Murdoch said girls showed “great heart as they fought valiantly against a bigger, stronger Mabel Park team’’ last week.
“The 38-12 score line did not reflect the effort and resilience displayed by the girls, who were down on troops with only thirteen players, but refused to make excuses and never gave up.’’ Letaja Thompson earnt the best on field honours with an outstanding performance in her first game wearing the No.6 jersey.’’
Beenleigh have been hit with season ending injuries but the remaining squad “epitomised resilience for the entirety of the game, but particularly the second half where they came back out the gates firing and scored two great tries to get themselves back into the contest’’.
“This week we’ve been really focusing on our defensive structure and communication as these were two areas that we recognised as a team needed improvement.
“We are also looking to improve on our slow start last week by coming out the blocks ready and raring to go this week.’’
