An up and coming youngster from the Sunshine Coast has showcased his talent and athleticism as one of his chasedown blocks takes top spot in our top plays from the third round of the Queensland State League.

Southeast Queensland’s local talent has continued to shine in the revamped competition in a round, which featured highlight plays in several blow out victories.

Here are our top five plays from Round 3:

1. Elias Cato – University of Sunshine Coast Rip

– Given opportunity to play significant minutes at the senior level for the first time, the athletic Elias Cato is shining for the USC Rip. Having already made several highlight plays in recent weeks, Cato added another one to the list when he chased down Anthony Kopcikas from the Brisbane Capitals on a fast break and pinned his layup against the backboard to save a basket for his team.

2. Jamaal Robateau – Sunshine Coast Phoenix

– The Sunshine Coast Phoenix are off to an impressive start in the QSL and a major reason has been the play of dynamic guard Jamaal Robateau. Undefeated after the first two games, the Phoenix made it three wins in a row when they dominated North Gold Coast on the weekend and Robateau had the play of the game with a steal and runaway one-hand slam in transition.

3. Tyrell Harrison/Callum Dalton – Southern Districts Spartans

– It seems Brisbane Bullets big men Tyrell Harrison and Callum Dalton enjoy playing together, combining for their second highlight play together in consecutive weeks. Against the Logan Thunder, it was the same story as round two as Dalton caught the ball at the high post and found Harrison for a nice alley-oop dunk in their 19-point victory on the weekend.

4. William McDowell-White – RedCity Roar

– A player who is expected to feature in our top plays regularly, William McDowell-White from RedCity takes the fourth position on our top plays albeit in a less emphatic way than last week. McDowell-White, who spent the past season with NBA G-League team the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, put a stamp on his team’s victory over the Gold Coast with a spin move to the basket which made his defender fall to the floor.

5. Atem Bior – Logan Thunder

– After returning to Australia following time at US College, University of Texas San Antonio, Atem Bior is an impressive young talent and showed that against the Southern Districts Spartans on the weekend. Despite his team falling short of a win, Bior had several dunks in the clash including this highlight play, where he slammed it home with one hand after faking a hand-off to a teammate.
