Andreatta, who is a a contender for the top job after Alen Stajcic’s sacking last year, will be on the Marsden State High School coaching staff.
While Andreatta is tight-lipped about her chances for the vacant Matildas post, others are doing the talking for her.
She has many in the city of Logan behind her in her bid to become the Matilda’s national coach, with even local politicians chipping into the debate.
“How fantastic would it be to see one of our incredible local school teachers in the top job with the Matildas,’’ said Shannon Fentiman , Waterford MP and Minister for Training and Skills.
“With the World Cup here in 2023, it would be great to see one of Logan’s most experienced sportswomen behind the Australian Women’s World Cup team.”
Marsden SHS principal Andrew Peach added: “Mel is an outstanding candidate for the Matildas job with so much experience within the current set up.
“Her knowledge, performance and outcomes speak volumes, and the chance to have such a highly qualified and deserving Australian female as coach of the women’s team for a home World Cup would be amazing.
“Our kids and staff have been so fortunate to have been able to learn from her, and I know all of Queensland and Australia would get behind her as the number one candidate for the job.”
Andreatta has a fantastic portfolio.
She was coach of the W League championship winning Brisbane Roar in 2017/18, was the W League Coach of the Year the same season and in 2018-19 she was named Rebel Sport Football Coach of the Year.
Of course as current assistant coach of the Matildas, she would have been at the Olympics with the team if not for COVID-19.
MATCH REPORTS & REPLAYS
SENIOR BOYS
MARSDEN SHS V CORINDA SHS
Corinda SHS finished with a wet sail to storm over the top of Marsden SHS 2-1 in the senior boys clash this morning at Richlands.
It was a high class, up-temp start to the day with Marsden SHS’s Faroq Manshed drawing first blood early with a classy finish to excellent team play.
But having held a 1-0 advantage for two-thirds of the game, Marsden were forced to hang on grimly as Corinda dominated the run toward full time.
Corinda’s Isaac Moses and Patrick Keomounghoun scored the winners for their side.
Marsden SHS keeper Kasper Stockill deserves high praise for his efforts as he dived left, right and skyward to save his side.
However he could not prevent the winner from Isaac Moses whose low shot beat Stockill’s right side dive to make it 2-1.
Corinda SHS coach Vaughan Hogan said a change in attitude at halftime led to his team’s revival from a 1-0 deficit.
“They are a very confident team and they want to always win,’’ explained Vaughan.
“I said if you want to go and lose 1-0 at halftime and you think you are a winning team, then you have to go out there and win for me.
“You have abililty, you have the quality and technical ability to play well and they did turn it around in the second half. I could see a shift in mentality.”
There was a moment of controversy not long after halftime when Corinda appeared to score a goal.
After the ball rebounded off the top of the post, Corinda beat goalie Stockill with a second shot but the ball was ruled to have gone into the net through a hole on the side of the net.
Corinda upped the ante in the second half and had the better of the running for a period.
With Stockill finally beaten - after having already made a save - Keomounghoun drove the ball but Marsden defender Shayden Gill dropped back in front of goals to kick the shot away.
However Keomounghoun made no mistake minutes later with a fantastic goal to make it 1-all.
Earlier in the first half, both Marsden and Corinda had a couple of chances which were pushed wide of the posts, but aside from that the defences held firm.
With Dylan Roche a go to man, Corinda challenged Marsden but the stoppers were doing well.
Of the two teams Marsden seemed to have slightly more potency, but Corinda’s defenders stood up to the challenge.
Marsden had one corner kick and Corinda two penalty shots from outside the box, but the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
The junior boys 9am contest was won 4-1 by Corinda SHS over Marsden.
SENIOR BOYS
MARSDEN SHS V CHANCELLOR COLLEGE
Chancellor College senior boys rose to the challenge to beat Marsden SHS 6-0 at Richlands this morning.
The boys from the Sunshine Coast scratched out a foothold toward victory by establishing a 3-0 advantage in the opening half.
Air then went out of the balloon for Marsden early in the second half when Chancellor’s Kane Gibbs produced a double to make it 5-0.
Initially Gibbs directed a spot kick into the back of the goal to make it 4-0, and then he fired home a blazing goal from 25m out that went like it had been shot out of a cannon.
Chancellor SC coach Chris Wilkes said it was obvious that Marsden SHS were fatigued having played the early game, but it was good for his side to have their first match together since the COVID-19 shutdown.
“It was a good way of blowing out the cobwebs,’’ Wilkes said.’
Looking ahead to the afternoon match against Corinda SHS to see who progressed to the next round, Wilkes said: “It is a game we are building a bit of rivalry with.
“We played them in last year’s SPL semi-finals and we were lucky enough to get over them in that game 5-2, so I am sure they are pretty keen to extract revenge.’’
Like all good players, Chancellor’s Matthew Becker seemed to have time to burn when the ball was around him and his influence on the win cannot be underestimated.
But it was an excellent team performance by Chancellor and they were no one man band.Marsden SHS’s defence was under intense pressure throughout and the truth is they did well to restrict Chancellor.
Marsden SHS coach Danny Byrne said it was a learning experience for a swag of year 10 students in his senior squad and he looked forward to working with them over the next two years.
“We had a squad of 20 players here today and half of them are year 10 and 11s,’’ Byrne said.
“Eight are year 10s, so we have them for the next two years.”We have set a plan in motion. A lot of the boys are on board.
“We will regroup and we will come back stronger.’’
Byrne said playing back-to-back matches was always going to be an issue.
“Unlike a lot of other schools, we are not fortunate enough that our boys play external football,’’ he said in reference to match fitness.
“So trying to back two games up on the same day is going to be a big ask for us.
“’In the first half Chancellor SC dominated possession and territory and it showed on the scoreboard when Becker and Flynn Deluca delivered shots beyond the grasp of Marsden keeper Kasper Stockill.
Stockill did well to repel several other shots, but he would have needed to have been superman to deny Becker and Delcua their goals.
In junior boys action, Chancellor College defeated Marsden SHS 4-1, with Adriana Miranda scoring Marsden’s goal.
OPEN BOYS
CHANCELLOR COLLEGE V CORINDA SHS
Chancellor College has reached the semi-finals of the Queensland Schools Premier League after a gripping clash with Corinda SHS this afternoon at Lions FC, Richlands.
This was serious footballing business between two teams full of intent and desire, with Chancellor prevailing on the strength of a superior goal difference after the match finished 1-all.
In the dying moments Corinda SHS loaded all the bases for one last, ditch attempt to wriggle free of the Chancellor defence, and finally Isaac Moses levelled the scores for Corinda.
That such a classy side as Chancellor was forced into a defensive frenzy was a credit to Corinda SHS.Chancellor had their noses in front for most of the match courtesy of Will Brown’s first half strike into the back of the net, but that was where their advantage ended.
With full time looming, there was a moment of enterprise for Corinda who capitalised on an unexpected turnover, but Chancellor keeper Joshua Morwood blocked the shot, forcing a corner kick which his side also defended.
Indeed Chancellor had to bring their best defensive passion to the party or risk perishing.
It was a wonderful football spectacle worthy of a final.
Corinda SHS took it up to Chancellor in spades with close goal side marking without the ball, and challenging ball movement when in possession.
Chancellor did have several outright chances and one corner from Lewis Gordon, although nicely weighted, also sailed marginally over its intended targets in the box.
Early in the match Chancellor danger men Will Brown and Kane Gibbs were threatening and it was Brown who opened the scoring in the first half.Corinda had a great chance to respond, but a shot cannoned into the top of the goal post. It was an effort which deserved a goal.
In the junior boys decider, Corinda SHS qualified for the semi-finals with a hard fought 2-1 win over Chancellor College.
