Finals spots are on the line as we close in on the last regular season games of the Basketball Queensland QSL1 competition with the North Gold Coast Seahawks hosting the Southern Districts Spartans in our game of the week.
The undefeated Seahawks women have top spot all locked away after building on their impressive season with a dominant 69-49 victory over the USC Rip last week.
North Gold Coast had four players reach double figures, led by Courtney Willemse with 16, as the result took their winning streak to 12.
But Bradley Kann’s team will not be letting up despite having sealed their place on the ladder as they face a Spartans side desperate for a win to jump into the competition’s top four at the Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium.
A win for Southern Districts would put them just one victory away from grabbing fourth after they fought back from an early double-digit lead last week to beat the Logan Thunder 83-79 at Cornubia.
Young guns Lulu Twidale (27 points) and Summah Hanson (23 points) were impressive but will need to lead the way again this week against a star-studded Seahawks side.
North Gold Coast’s men’s team are firing on all cylinders at the moment after the got revenge on the USC Rip, who beat them two weeks earlier, last week to record an 81-72 victory.
The Seahawks veterans in David Gurney (28 points) and Rhys Martin (18 points) couldn’t be stopped as the result put the Jordan Mullan-coached side level at the top of the ladder with the Brisbane Capitals.
But much like their women’s team, the Spartans men will be desperate to get the upset against the Seahawks, with Southern Districts tied with the USC Rip for fourth spot and just one win behind the third-placed Gold Coast Rollers.
Southern Districts go into the important match-up with confidence though following a six-point victory over the Logan Thunder last week where Rawiri Poppe was in red hot form with 23 points.
Both games will be livestreamed in this story with the video appearing 30 minutes before tip-off.
The women’s game will start at 6pm followed by the men at 8pm.
