North Gold Coast Seahawks host the USC Rip in Basketball Qld QSL1 in top four clash

The North Gold Coast Seahawks women will be looking to remain undefeated while the men will after revenge when they host the USC Rip in the Basketball Queensland QSL1. WATCH THE REPLAY!

Rewind two weeks and it took one of the performances of the season for the USC Rip to take down the North Gold Coast Seahawks men.

USC guard Dane Glover dominated the top four clash on his home court, putting up 30 points to lead the Rip City to an impressive 77-63 victory over the preseason favourite Seahawks.

But this weekend, the Seahawks will have the chance for revenge when they host the return match on Saturday at Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium.

And coming off a dominant 82-64 win over locals rivals, the Gold Coast Rollers, last week, Jordan Mullan’s side will be up for the challenge.

The contest is an important one for both teams, with the second-placed Seahawks looking to stay in touch with ladder leaders, the Brisbane Capitals, while USC can put some distance between them and the Spartans, who are just one game behind in fifth spot.

While in the women’s clash, North Gold Coast will look to keep their undefeated record rolling against the team they dominated by 44 points just a fortnight ago.

The Seahawks, led by the likes of Courtney Willemse (18.5 points per game) and Lauren Jansen (14 points and 14 rebounds per game), are yet to be seriously challenged and will easily claim the minor premiership with a record currently at 11 wins and no losses.

But their opponents desperately need a result to go their way, with USC on a four-game losing streak after starting the season in red hot form.

Rip City have dealt with several injuries to key players in recent weeks as well as other absences for NBL1 commitments but need to return to their winning ways if they are to keep the fifth-placed Logan out of the top four.

Camryn Hughes has been in impressive form for USC as one of the competition’s MVP candidates, averaging 20 points and 12.4 rebounds per game and she will need another big game to give Rip City some hope of challenging the championship favourites.

The women’s game will tip-off at 6pm with the men at 8pm.
