Catch up on all the action from some of Queensland’s top players in the Big Hockey Hit Out, with Reef taking on Thunder and the Stingers and Rays battling it out. WATCH REPLAYS

Hockey livestreaming is back with a bang from Friday, with Big Hockey Hit Out action as the state’s top players via for selection in the Brisbane Blaze teams to compete later in the year.

The three day event, staged Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Labrador on the Gold Coast, will give selectors a chance to formulate Queensland senior teams (Brisbane Blaze) to compete in the Hockey One National League later in the year.

It will be livestreamed across the state by www.couriermail.com.au, Gold Coast Bulletin and News affiliates.

Here is a list of some of the key Players to Watch.

REPLAY: REEF V THUNDER

Reef men came from the back of the field to snatch victory from Thunder in a dramatic opening to the Big Hockey Hit Out tonight.

With the scores locked at 1-all at full time, Reef won a penalty shoot out 2-1.

This was after a thrilling climax in regulation time which saw Thunder defend three penalty corners on full time.

Reef almost stole the match out of the fire earlier after Luke Randle had earned his team the first of three penalty corners 14 seconds before the final hooter.

Zac Profke (twice) and Joshua Bidgood lined up to take the shots which were knocked away by both the Thunder goalie - Matt Finn, and his defenders, which sent the fixture hurtling into extra time.

Earlier, Reef’s Diarmid Chappell scored on the stroke of halftime against the run of play to earn a 1-all scoreline after Carter Chappell had earned a penalty corner.

The prolific Zac Profke had his shot deflected, but Chappell pushed forward, knocking a chest high attempt into the back of the net.

All this after Thunder, with the creative Hugh Pembroke leading the way, had had the better of the first half.

They scored early through Sam Young, and threatened several times - including when Bradley Hughes had intercepted possession and sent the pass to Hugh Pembroke who flicked on to Young.

Young almost scored a second time, but his back handed shot sprayed wide, while Reef were also able to turn a penalty stroke to Thunder into a near goal at the other end after Reef’s Kipp Thrupp had carried possession down the pitch.

Just after halftime, Thunder’s Hughes had a penalty corner which skidded wide

Reef goalkeeper Mitch Nicholson was the hero.

Three times - one in each of the first three quarters - Thunder were locked and loaded at penalty stroke time - and on three occasions they were denied goals, due largely to Nicholson’s effort.

Thunder then had another three penalty corners in the fourth quarter, before the exciting overtime shoot out.

And on turf No.2, in women’s action Rays defeated Stingers 4-1, with St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ schoolgirl Georgie West (Kedron Wavell) scoring in the eight minute to get her side pointed in the right direction.

Britt Wilkinson (twice) and Morgan Mathison also scored for Rays, while Ruby Harris (Easts) found the back of the net for Stingers.

STINGERS V RAYS (men)

A late night thriller saw Rays prevail - but only just - against Stingers after Rays’ Matthew Shaw scored in the 59th minute.

Stingers seemingly had the game in hand leading 4-1 into the fourth quarter when a Blake Wotherspoon special put his side in the box seat.

But a Will Prest double in the 52nd minute opened the door for Rays who then pressed hard for victory, and then Shaw’s dramatic field goal conversion carried his side into the lead for the first time.

Even then Rays came back after the hooter, with Wotherspoon launching into a penalty corner which was deflected away by Rays.

Stingers started with three successful penalty corner conversions - handing them a 3-nil halftime lead.

His sister Renee may be in Tokyo representing Australia at the Olympics, but Jared Taylor was making his own headlines with two expertly taken shots after his team had drawn penalty corners.

This after Joseph Sandor had opened the scoring in the 10th minute for Stingers.

Taylor then hit the woodwork with a third attempt before Rays star striker Joel Rintala scored to get his team going. It was 3-1 in the third quarter.

In the Reef-Thunder women’s clash, Thunder captain Claire Colwill and Jade Emblem scored in the first quarter to give their side a flystart.
