NBL talents shine as Southern Districts Spartans beat Gold Coast Rollers
Sunday’s Queensland State League matches were action-packed. First we had the biggest women’s match-up of the young season so far as the Spartans hosted the Rollers in a replay of last year’s QBL grand final series. The Southern Districts Spartans completed a clean sweep of the Gold Coast Rollers after two back and forth clashes this afternoon.
In the women’s game, which was a replay of last year’s QBL grand final, the veterans from the Spartans in Bec Haynes and Nat Taylor led the way despite the absence of WNBL big Kalani Purcell.
Haynes finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for Southern Districts in the 85-78 victory.

Taylor also produced a vintage performance with 22 points and five rebounds.
Carleigh Patrick was the leading scorer for the Rollers with 18 points.
“It was physical as expected, Gold Coast played all 40 minutes hard,” Spartans coach Aja Parham-Ammar said.
“I’m happy with the way our veteran girls were able to overcome not having our full roster and get the win.

“It wasn’t pretty but we will take the win.”
In the men’s game, the Rollers had the running in the first half but the depth of the Spartans proved too much in the end as Cj Bruton’s side closed it out with a 95-81 victory.
Tyrell Harrison led the way for the Spartans with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Tamuri Wigness also had 17 points.
For Gold Coast, Jalen Patton-Crocker scores 20 points while Adrian La Fleur had 19.
