With an engaged local crowd celebrating Home Coming Day, the Wavell SHS side gave their supporters plenty to cheer about with a 42-6 win.
Oloapu, matched hardened after a strong Mal Meninga Cup under 18 campaign with the Redcliffe Dolphins, took it up a notch as he feasted on a flood of first half possession.

WAVELL SHS V COOMBABAH SHS
REPLAY: WAVELL 22-10 ALEXANDRA HILLS SHS IN LANGER TROPHY RESERVE GRADE
Speed. You just can’t beat it on a rugby league field.
And Wavell had it in spades, helping elevate its reserves to 22-10 victory over a talented Alexandra Hills SHS side.
In a game between two evenly matched sides, the withering pace of centre Sese Nati was on show to score a vital second half try.
Pace was also evident at the back, with national sprinter Kallum Weatherall-Stacey displaying great pace to cover attacking and distance kicks by the opposition.
And speed was evident again five minutes from fulltime when Weatherall-Stacey blazed 22m for the match winning try.
There was also plenty of mobility in Wavell No.13 Norman Rua who impressed against a Jeremy Crawford-led Alexandra Hills side which refused to buckle.
The scoreboard may have read 16-4 after Nati’s converted try, but it was anyone’s game.
One senses we haven’t seen the last of this Alexandra Hills side which puts its shoulder to the grindstone.
Wavell started strongly and lead 10-nil before Alexandra Hills worked its way back into the match courtesy of a bold defensive unit.
Battered early by big opponents, the side tenaciously stuck to its guns.Alex Hills’ best chance came eight minutes before halftime when they earned a restart and applied a period of pressure.
But on the team’s first wide shift, Wavell centre Sese Nati read play beautifully to hustle forward and force an error from Gary Herlihy.
However, Alex Hills’ defence forced a turnover leading to a rejuvenated Alex sweeping into attack. In the right corner Alex Graham was ankle tackled by George Henry-Monaei, but a lovely wide movement to the left hand side resulted in backrower Jeremy Crawford linking with centre Julian Drinnan who put hsi winger Lachlan Cook over.
Earlier, Wavell opened the match strongly, attacking through its defence.
Xavier Lui made a bone-crunching first tackle of the game, and five minutes later also scored the first try with a bumping right side run.
Wavell No.13 Rua had a strong start to the clash, and two powerful thrusts help lay foundation for prop Will Sologinkin’s successful drive to score next to the posts.
With Nayten Iselin-Jansen’s successful conversion, Wavell SHS led 10-nil.
Scores: Wavell SHS 22 (K Weatherall-Stacey, G Henry-Monaei, W Sologinkin, X Lui tries; N Iselin-Jansen 2 conv) def Alex Hills 10 (L Cook try, Gary Herlihy try).
REPLAY: WAVELL SHS, 34, DEFEAT COOMBABAH, 6, IN THE WALTERS CUP
A brilliant individual try from Wavell SHS prop Prestyn Laine-Setu guided his side to a commendable 34-6 Walters Cup victory over Coombabah SHS tonight.
Laine-Setu, recently named player of the state carnival in the 14-15 years age group, showed his class with a dynamic 25m run to the tryline.
Coombabah would have rightly been surprised by his pace, with Laine-Setu running with the freedom of an outside back after spotting a gap down the middle of the ruck.
That try, and another soon after from five-eight Oliver Jones, lifted their side to the safety of a 24-8 advantage 15 minutes from fulltime.
Wavell then ensured they would win with a smart left shift to winger Riley Jenkins to score.
All this after Coombabah had struck back seconds before halftime when Tom Summer reached out and plunged the ball over the line next to the posts, leading to a 12-6 scoreline.
Although Wavell SHS got out to a 12-nil advantage after a grand pass by Hosea Kedzlie had put Lotu Salei over to score, there was never really much in the first half clash.
Wavell started the better of the two teams, and their reward was an early dummy half try to hooker Jai Camilleri.
But Coombabah soon settled into the contes and an evenly matched encounter unfolded.
Scores: Wavell SHS 34 (O Jones, L Salei, J Camilleri, P Laine-Sietu, R Jenkins, T Tait tries; L Salei 3 convs) def Coombabah SHS 6 (T Summer, J Grimmond conv)
REPLAY: WAVELL SHS, 42, DEFEAT COOMBABAH SHS, 6, IN THE LANGER TROPHY
At Wavell, home supporters formed a guard of honour 70m long, and the roar of the crowd would have been heard across the suburb as the home side thundered onto the field.
Last week Wavell SHS were ambushed by St Mary’s College in Toowoomba, but tonight it was the Wavell side primed and positioned for victory, winning 42-6.
But Coombabah took plenty out of a gutsy second half effort after being behind 36-nil at the break.
Wavell SHS basically ran the opening 15 minutes of the match, and Coombabah had to dig deep, dig very deep, to withstand the onslaught.
With five-eight Karl Oloapu in golden touch, Wavell SHS basically ran the opening 15 minutes of the match, and Coombabah had to dig deep, dig very deep, to withstand the onslaught.
There was also scoreboard pressure when halfback Jalen Afamasaga blasted over to score next to the posts after lead up by Oloapu.
More pressure resulted in more points, this time with hooker Tyrell Waaka-Rhind wriggling his way over midway between the posts and the sideline. Afamasaga’s successful conversion made it 12-nil.
Then Oloapu did it all himself, getting on the outside of his opponents and showing them a clean pair of heels to the tryline. It was now 18-nil.
Big Will Curran and interchange forward Tahrell Feaveai then powered their way over from close range, while winger Jayden Ambichi crossed out wide and with Bennetto’s perfect goal kicking record it was 36-nil at halftime.
Coombabah SHS nearly scored straight after the break when No.6 Ethan Leypoldt broke clear, but but Wavell half Afamasaga was present to bring off a legs tackle.
Coombabah displayed more tenacity when numbers in cover defence prevented Ambichi scoring his second try.
The big boppers then brought Coombabah out of their own end, and they deserved a pat on the back for their back room effort which led to fullback Shannon Donaldson scampering his way over to score from dummy half.
Coombabah SHS’s second half revival was a credit to the spirit of the group and there are good times ahead for the squad.
Wavell 42 (W Curran 2, J Ambichi, K Oloapu, J Afamasaga, T Waaka-Rhind, T Feaveai tries; T Bennetto 7 conv) def Coombabah SHS 6 (S Donaldson try, goal)
