An Adelaide Striker with 41 Big Bash games under his belt in James Bazley headlines our star-studded team of the tournament following the conclusion of the All Ballsports T20 Cup on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Dolphins flexed their considerable muscle across both finals to take out this season’s T20 crown, and have been rewarded with the selection of Lachlan Crump in the middle order, as well as 12th man Sam Chapman and 13th man Sam McLean.
Crump featured in just one round robin game leading into the finals, but his impact was crucial in the Dolphins’ securing the premiership on the competition’s final day.
Crump produced a semifinal knock of 47 not out followed by an unbeaten 62 in the final. Across both games, his strike rate was an astounding 167.
Queens, who fell to Dolphins in the final, were rewarded for their strong tournament with three players cracking our team of the tournament.
Max Houlahan and Jack Kann were picked in the top six, while Jackson Winton has slotted into the side as a bowler – despite opening the batting – after picking up 12 wickets across the tournament.
Despite a brief two game cameo for Helensvale Pacific Pines, Northern Suburbs premier first grade keeper Raveesh Srivastava got the nod to wear the gloves for the side.
Srivastava lifted Helensvale Pacific Pines to a dominant win over Runaway Bay with 71 not out from just 26 balls in a simply remarkable knock that included four fours and seven sixes. He also took a hat-trick of stumpings in that same game.
Coomera Hope Island was of course buoyed by the inclusions of Sunshine Coast premier first grade captain Nicholas Selman and Big Bash stalwart James Bazley.
Both players were worth the weight in gold as they lifted Coomera Hope Island to the semifinals before being overrun by the Dolphins.
Selman, who also has T20 Max century under his belt this season, plundered 212 runs while Bazley just pipped him with 213.
It was renowned southeast Queensland coach Brad Murphy, now in his second season at the helm of the club, who was responsible for luring the pair to the Coast for a few weeks.
“A great club attracts a great coach who attracts great players,” said Coomera Hope Island president Paul Kleinschmidt, who described the pair as “very handy contributors”.
Kleinschmidt noted how their influence went well beyond runs and wickets.
“We had big crowds, there were kids down here getting photos and autographs, it was really good,” he said.
“If they can help you get a win that also creates a good vibe for the team and spectators.
“Not only do we benefit but Gold Coast Cricket’s profile benefits and players that get an opportunity to play against him also benefit.”
