The Gold Coast region is brimming with junior cricket talent, from century-makers to wicket-takers and teenage first-grade mainstays.

In our ‘junior spotlight’ series, we’ll profile the top talents from each age group and division, with division 3 the latest to be included.

Division 3

Josh Hingle

Club: Burleigh

Is in form this season with a 75 retired not out under his belt already. His coach believes he could be a future first grade captain as he has a good way about him.

Bill Barber

Club: Burleigh

He’s only a younger player but he’s got a big future and is already the fastest bowler in his team. He’s a pace bowler and bats in the top six.

Cooper McNee

Club: Burleigh

The pace bowler clocked 100 km/h on the radar a few days ago. He’s only young and also opens the batting.

Jaiden Peach

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

Described as a very mature kid who just turned 14, he’s playing 6th grade seniors and has already surpassed 45 six times this season. He’s doing an amazing job batting and knows his cricket well, clever player for his age.

Tallen Barton

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

Bowls really nice off-spin and can whack the ball when he’s batting, as evidenced by his recent 67 not out which came at a fair clip from just 50 balls faced. He’s a quiet achiever who goes about his work and puts in good performances.

Riley Dealy

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

The young gun snagged a five-wicket haul in her first game and is already playing first grade for Dolphins women at just 14 years of age. She plays with a heavier ball than in women’s cricket at the junior boys level but that doesn’t effect the pace bowler who has been bowling well and is also batting in the top four.

Leo Jones

Club: Surfers Paradise

Jones is a handy bowler and has figures of 3-18 from seven overs under his belt this season.

Harry Fryer

Club: Surfers Paradise

Fryer is a patient batsman who can build an innings, has a high score of 41 so far this season.

Riley Price

Club: Southport Labrador

The all-rounder has impressed with both bat and ball in hand, averaging 41 with the bat and just 14.4 with the ball.

Samuel Johnstone

Club: Southport Labrador

Has been equal parts consistent and suffocating for the Tigers throughout the season, with six wickets across four innings and at least one wicket taken in every game. Johnstone’s economy has only crept above two on one occasion, and that was with figures of 1-20 from seven overs which are not to be sneezed at.

Brody Townsend

Club: Palm Beach Currumbin

Has already plundered over 100 runs from three knocks with a pair of half centuries to his name.

Tyler Wigmore

Club: Coomera Hope Island

Has been solid with bat in hand and is yet to be dismissed for less than 22 runs while earning himself an average above 50. Has also snagged four wickets.

Jack Pennell

Club: Queens

The all-rounder can bowl pace and is a high-order batsman. He’s taken a wicket every time he’s bowled so far.

Jarvis Fletcher

Club: Queens

Middle order keeper batsman is a strong bat and has been Queens’ ‘Mr. Consistent’ in division 3 this season, with a low score of 27 from four digs and a particularly strong outing of 61 against Surfers Paradise Blues.

Dan Ramsay

Club: Queens

Has made a strong start to the season with bat in hand, striking 159 runs at an average of 39.75 at the time of writing.

Orlando Hawke

Club: Queens

Has been one of the top early season performers for Queens with a batting average of 54.5 and bowling average of just 4.44. His total of nine wickets is leading all comers in open division 3.

Kingston Currey

Club: Queens

The top order batsman also bowls really good medium pace.

Harrison Rachow

Club: Runaway Bay

The all-round threat has a 40 to his name with the bat and has picked up six wickets at an average of less than 12.

Jacob Low

Club: Broadbeach Robina

His talent was on full display against Palm Beach Currumbin when he struck a handy 59 with the bat. Has also picked up a few wickets.

Bailey Petersen

Club: Broadbeach Robina

Has snagged seven wicket so far, headlined by a spectacular haul of 5-11 from just four overs against Palm Beach Currumbin.

Division 2

Jack White

Club: Queens

The Queens co-captain has a rock solid technique and a ton under his belt already this season. He hits the loose ball really well and also bowls some handy medium pace. Has matured and strengthened as a cricketer.

Tom Robertson

Club: Queens

Queens’ other co-captain is a handy middle order bat and leg spin bowler. His bowling is his main forte, he spins it well and gets good turn yet maintains his accuracy. Has a nice smooth action.

Hrihan Malhotra

Club: Queens

Another leg spinner, Hrihan bowls with good pace, gets good spin and has really high accuracy.

Miller Dixon

Club: Burleigh

A younger player, Miller took 5-8 off four overs when his side routed Southport for 52, and he’s also a solid top four bat. He’s a pace bowler who swings it in and is quite full with his length. Has a high ceiling.

Jed Robertson

Club: Burleigh

Robertson is a good bowler who’s also been getting plenty of runs. He’s a good technical player who is ahead of the curve and has great hand-eye coordination. He’s a complete batsman without being a power hitter, and is a strong seam bowler. Also a natural athlete who tends to excel at whatever sport he applies himself at.

Toby Humphries

Club: Burleigh

Has been making runs every innings and improved a lot with the bat at the top of the order. Also a good swing bowler.

Aiden Farrell

Club: Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts

Has managed scores of 43 and 37 as the highlights with the bat this season. A player with temperament that can build an innings.

Uditi Ratnala

Club: Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts

Has enjoyed a strong start to the season with the ball, and taken plenty of divison 2 wickets for Burleigh before earning a divison 1 promotion. Is also playing for the Gold Coast Dolphins women and in Taverners.

Matthew Henderson

Club: Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts

Has been among the wickets, with his top performance a five-wicket haul against Queens.

Ben O’Donnell

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

After a lean season last year, O’Donnell is coming off the back of a strong winter competition performance and has hit the ground running. Struck 84 not out in round 2 and is taking a good step forward. He’s a smart kid who knows his tactics and is also his side’s wicketkeeper and captain.

Marley Goodwin

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

A pace bowler with lots of variation and a good yorker who’s already bagged a heap of wickets this season, including a haul of 5-4. The leader of his pace attack who could well push into division 1 at some point this season. Described by his coach as a “loveable pest”. Has a remarkable division 2 average of just 3.7 from 10 wickets at the time of writing.

Noah Bray

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

A pace bowler, Bray is coming off stress fractures that caused him to miss the backend of last season. He’s been diligent with his recovery, works so hard, and is now getting the results and taking wickets. His batting has evolved from being a genuine tail-ender to scoring a 60 not out this season, making him a genuine all-round threat.

Lane Chapman

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

Is only 13 years of age and a big indoor cricketer, but is shaping as a talented all-rounder. He’s an aggressive middle order bat and bowls leg spin. Is enjoying his first season of turf cricket. Is also in the representative pipeline and will continue to improve.

Tate Della

Club: Southport Labrador

Is leading the way in the open division 2 run-scoring thus far, largely thanks to a knock of 102 from 104 balls against Queens. Has also picked up five wickets at an average of 14.4.

Riley Thompson

Club: Southport Labrador

Has enjoyed a consistent season with the ball thus far, taking at least two wickets every match for a total of seven from three outings in junior cricket. Is also performing at a senior level in fourth grade and has a 46 there with the bat.

Eligh Fermor

Club: Bonogin

Scored his first ton of the year in the opening round and hasn’t looked back, adding another in Last Man Stands. He shapes as Bonogin’s most promising junior and is also performing at a senior level. Is a wicketkeeper but can also bowl well.

Caleb Williams

Club: Bonogin

A natural athlete, Williams is a good bat, good bowler, and unbelievable in the field. There’s been no standouts performances that jump off the page thus far but he’s a solid contributor week in and week out. His coach rates him as the best fielder in the club better ahead of all the senior players. He’s a strong Aussie rules player too and is in the Gold Coast Suns academy.

Tarquin Joseph

Club: Bonogin

Joseph is primarily a bowler but has already struck a 50 this season with an unbeaten 54. Bowls right arm medium pace and is exceeding expectations with the bat in the first year of division 2 cricket.

Dev Sharma

Club: Surfers Paradise

An aggressive top order bat who is also a handy swing bowler.

Mac Hawkins

Club: Surfers Paradise

A tidy gloveman and a terrific and aggressive opening batsman.

Charlie McLennan

Club: Surfers Paradise

A terrific medium pace bowler, who is solid, steady and reliable at the top of the order with the bat.

Myles Massey

Club: Surfers Paradise

A genuine opening bowler, who bowls a fast and heavy ball that swings and seams.

Joseph Brenac

Club: Runaway Bay

Is averaging 50 for Runaway Bay at the time of writing after a strong start to his division 2 junior campaign. Has only had two knocks but managed an 87 off 88 balls against Mudgeeraba.

Joshua McDonald

Club: Alberton Ormeau

Is playing second grade senior cricket and has plundered a half century there, and has snagged eight wickets in the open division 2 juniors.

Division 1

Taylor Waugh

Club: Surfers Paradise

Made his second grade debut in round 5 and has been scintillating form throughout the early weeks of the junior season, averaging 54.2 with 271 runs to his name. He’s the quintessential opening batsman who isn’t afraid to bide his time and see off the new ball. As his coach Isaac Eckersley put it, once he takes the shine off the new ball and faces 30 or so deliveries, it’s good luck bowlers. The case in point was the round 1 fixture against Palm Beach, where he scored 98 not out off 138 after he on 20-odd runs through his first 70 balls. Simply doesn’t feel dot ball pressure.

Archie Atkinson

Club: Surfers Paradise

At just 14 years of age, Atkinson has already earnt his senior first grade cap this season. He’s a sharp stump to stump opening bowler and an attacking batsman.

Cooper Brown

Club: Surfers Paradise

Brown has incredible hand-eye coordination and simply scores runs for fun. He’s playing senior second-grade cricket for the Demons.

Lachie Pask

Club: Surfers Paradise

An all-rounder, Pask is a solid batsman with a good technique and strong wrists. He’s also a sharp bowler despite being just 14 and of smaller stature, and gets very good bounce.

Beau Jorgensen

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

The Helensvale Pacific Pines captain is coming off an incredible 2023/24 campaign where he took 66 wickets at an average of 12.74 across all grades. He was also part of Helensvale’s second-grade premiership squad but missed the grand final with a broken thumb. He’s a cool, calm and collected leg-spinner who isn’t fazed by aggressive batsmen, has good control and turns the ball well. Does everything you want for a spinner.

Lachlan Mulcahy

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

A tall opening fast bowler who has been around the junior representative programs. He took big steps forward in the last couple of years, and is hungry and determined. Expect him to wake some opening batters up over the course of the open div 1 season. Snagged six wickets in the opening round against Burleigh.

Rolley Thomas

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

A natural opening bat and modern player, he naturally scores quickly. Opening the batting in the round 1 two-day game he crunched 45 off 43 balls by simply going about his business. He’s a natural strokemaker and could be one of the best bats in the competition this year if he realises his potential. He’s lots of fun to watch and will take games to the opposition.

Ashton Cooper

Club: Helensvale Pacific Pines

May be flying under the radar as he’s missed the bulk of the past 18 months with a stress fracture, but he’s back with a vengeance and bowling as twice as fast as he used to bowl. He’s a very exciting raw talent and will likely have come a long way by the end of the season.

Cody-Jett Farag

Club: Broadbeach Robina

A strong top order batsman and left-arm fast bowler. Floating between second and third grade at a senior level and has played Gold Coast Dolphins juniors for the past four years.

Craig Subramoney

Club: Broadbeach Robina

Subramoney captain his under-17 side and is the wicketkeeper. He has tremendously fast hands, and is also excelling behind the stumps at a senior level in second grade.

James Boots

Club: Broadbeach Robina

A strong opening batsman and off-spinner who is also a Dolphins junior. Is fresh off a mighty knock of 114 against Surfers in round 3, after piling on 77 against them a week earlier. Is also playing first grade senior cricket.

Oscar Leu

Club: Burleigh

Leu has made fine start to the season with bat in hand. He plundered an unbeaten 100 off 79 deliveries in round 2, and also has a senior second grade half century under his belt this season.

Ryder Mendoza

Club: Burleigh

An all-round threat, Mendoza has found some early season form with the bat in juniors after striking 50 not out from 54 balls in round two. The 16-year-old is also playing senior first grade cricket for Burleigh as a bowler, and represented Gold Coast at last year’s under-15 state carnival. He’s a bowler as quick as they come in the under-17s, with his left arm pace sure to wreak some havoc this season. He’s the vice-captain of his side and seams the ball well.

Patrick Eveleigh

Club: Burleigh

Hasn’t figured for Burleigh in the under-17s yet but he’s certainly a top talent to watch. He’s been floating between Tavs and the Gold Coast Dolphins senior premier fourth grade - where he struck 50 on the weekend gone - and its hoped he’ll figure for Burleigh in the open div 1 competition at some point in December. A stylish batsman whose secure at the crease, he’ll be tough to dismiss.

Ollie Lum

Club: Burleigh

One of the younger players in his Burleigh side, Lum made 57 at first drop in round three and is starting to become more aggressive and unlock his scoring potential. Also a right arm seam bowler whose bowling is developing nicely.

Cam Dixon

Club: Burleigh

The captain of his side, Dixon is an aggressive bat who likes to play his shots and will try and score quickly. He’s a wicket keeper who opens the batting and has played a mix of second and third grade senior cricket.

Hunter Hampton

Club: Mudgeeraba Nerang & Districts

Hampton already has a solid return of nine wickets from six games in all competitions with the ball this season, including a four-wicket haul against Queens in third grade. Despite his lack of senior opportunities with the bat he hasn’t wasted them in juniors, occupying the crease for more than 50 balls both times he’s batted.
