Live stream: Catch four huge games from the Queensland Schools Premier League finals

Corinda State High pulled off a huge double success at the Queensland Schools Premier League football finals, but they weren’t the only stars of the show. Catch up on all the REPLAYS.

A unique school double, goals galore and a penalty shootout .... there was plenty to savour at the Queensland Schools Premier League finals at the home of Wynnum Wolves FC on Wednesday.

After Corinda took the opening two games, Kelvin Grove College then stepped up to smack eight past Palm Beach Currumbin. Then in the tightest game of the day, Cavendish Road upstaged Marsden on penalties.

BOY POOL A

Cavendish Road 0 (5) d Marsden 0 (4) on penalties

Underdogs Cavendish Road SHS claimed the Queensland Schools Premier League Pool A boys grand final 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a pulsating 80 minutes finished 0-0.

Players were engulfed by supporters and the Marsden SHS players left forlorn after a dramatic finish.

It was the grand final everyone was waiting for as the previously unbeaten favourites, Marsden, started like they were running downhill, only to be stalked by opponents who gathered confidence and intensity the more the game progressed.

Cav Road’s pressure when not in possession, and their ability to take time away from Marsden, was outstanding, as was the heroics at both ends by the respective keepers - Sam Flannery (Cav Road) and Blake Koitka (Marsden).

Marsden SHS’s Abel Abraha would have scored first had Flannery not come forward to reduce Abraha’s advance.

Cav Road got their title after penalties.

Cav Road then repelled a succession of corners before Marsden goalkeeper Koitka had to display a shield of steel to stop Cavendish Road from scoring.

Koitka’s brilliance at the back continued deep into the match when he twice snuffed likely goals.

It was sensational stuff in a gripping finale.

The keepers owned their space around goals.

There was also a close call for Marsden SHS when Cav Road’s Wil Avis fell in the box, and when Will Haworth glanced the wall with a free kick.

Not long after Julien Day’s shot slammed into the post after Wil Avis had dispossessed his rival and Cav Road could easily have had three goals.

GIRLS - POOL A

Kelvin Grove 8 d Palm Beach Currumbin 0

A first half blitz by Kelvin Grove State College laid the platform for their Battle of the M1 grand final triumph over the Gold Coast’s Palm Beach Currumbin SHS.

Kelvin Grove won 8-0, turning a goalless scoreline after 15 minutes into a 4-0 advantage by halftime.

Initially, in the first half, two goals in two minutes propelled Kelvin Grove State School away from PBC in a hurry.

There had been little between the sides, but then Kelvin Grove went bang-bang.

A graceful build-up by Cate Morrison put the ball into the box for advancing forward Winter Royal, then moments later Royal did it all herself.

Morrison then scored again, and on the cusp of halftime Polly Jones garnished Kelvin Grove’s performance with a fourth goal.

PBC SHS, having done so well for so long this season, tried to arrest the momentum in the second half.

PBC SHS stiffened its back four and were gritty across the final 40 minutes.

But inevitably the pointy end of Kelvin Grove’s game prevailed, with strikes by Lauren McMahon and Millie Green adding two goals and raising their side into unbeatable landscape, before another two in the final 60 seconds.

BOYS POOL B

Corinda 4 d Cleveland District 1

Corinda SHS survived a second half recovery from Cleveland District SHS to win the Pool B senior boys decider 4-1.

After Corinda’s senior girls had claimed grand final day honours in the morning, the school snared another title in a game which swung wildly from end to end.

Cleveland created as many chances - including twice thundering the ball into the crossbar - but Corinda’s finishing was superior.

It was appropriate that the game finished with a cracker of a goal via Corinda’s Lachlan Oestreich.

Corinda v Cleveland (Pool B boys)

Corinda had jumped to a 2-0 advantage by halftime after Harry Hawyes scored, followed by a beautifully constructed goal scored by Xander Laikum.

Laikum’s goal was made possible by Hawyes stealing the ball away from his opponent, passing to Beau McDonald who pushed the ball onto the scorer.

The Rolls Royce finishing power of Phoenix Thatcher then came to the surface in the second half and despite an excellent contribution from Cleveland’s goalkeeper Zach Cornford, the better side won.

Cleveland’s goal came courtesy of Sean Coates late in the game.

GIRLS POOL B

Corinda 5 d Helensvale 0

Corinda SHS are the Queensland Schools Premier League Pool B girls champions after defeating Helensvale SHS 5-0 at Wynnum Wolves on Wednesday.

Two sublime second half corner kicks by Layla Franzoni, elite finishing by Rhiannon Larsen and clever creation from Ruby Sharma complemented a compact defensive unit on the way to victory.

Larsen and Norwegian exchange student Hedda Westeng supported the two corners lobbed in by Short with grand headers into the back of the net. A fifth goal came from Lelima Flier.

The grand final win maintained Corinda’s unbeaten run this season and earned them promotion to Pool A where all but two members - the Larsen sisters - will return.

Gallant Helensvale SHS had two genuine shots on goal across the first 50 minutes, but it was Corinda who made the most of its chances.

Corinda placed a few fingers around the Cup with two first-half goals.

Corinda are the girls Pool B champs.

Alexandra Horvath opened the scoring with a beautifully finished goal after finding space down the right wing following a pass by Sharma.

Sharma was involved a second time after presenting the ball to striker Larsen who finished to make it 2-0.

Corinda State High will have a shot at doing the Pool B double in the girls and boys, while last year’s Pool A boys runners up, Cavendish Road, will have a chance to avenge 12 months of heartache against Marsden State High.

Zara Boyd (Helensvale SHS)

A high class centre back, this Gold Coast United 23s ace has NPLW experience and recently added representing Northern Ireland under-19s to her playing regime. She helped Northern Ireland to a 1-all result against Hungary.

A pacy defender, Boy can break lines with her dribbling ability and looks like a real

star for the future.

Rani Sharma (Corinda SHS)

Sharma is a dynamic centre mid with a big engine, a footballer who will run all day and be involved in all aspects of a match.

She is someone who will also stiffen her team’s defence with her never say die attitude.

Tenacious Sophie of Helensvale SHS tackles a rival.

Sophie Paterson (Helensvale SHS)

The Logan Lightning under-23 fullback, Paterson is a versatile left footer who reads the game well. She often positions herself in the channels to cut off passes and drive forward on her many interceptions. She will be hard to get past in the final.

Rhiannon Larsen (Corinda SHS)

A striker, Larsen has been a SPL ace. She has been on fire across the competition this year and been involved in multiple goal scoring and goal assistant movements for her school.

Chloe Camilleri (Helensvale)

Camilleri will captain Helensvale and give her side a presence from centre back.

She is tall and powerful, possessing an excellent range of passing. Camilleri is a leader on and off the pitch.

Ruby Suitor (Corinda SHS)

Every finals’ team needs a player like Suitor, a noted centre back who can play all over the park. She is an organiser, a strong communicator and a positive influence on the group.

Suitor leads with her standards and encourages others to lift their game to another level.

Mia Deanoz (Helensvale)

A genuine box to box centre midfielder, Deanoz closes down space with great effect while

causing plenty of problems for the opposition during transition phases. She also plays club at Logan Lightning,

CORINDA SHS v CLEVELAND DISTRICT SHS (Pool B boys)

Cruz Lizasoain (Cleveland District SHS)

Lizasoain has just completed his rookie season playing first team football in the men’s NPL FQ competition.

He is worldly wise now having played in big matches while under a fair bit of pressure for Redlands United. This experience will go a long way towards helping Cleveland to the top prize.

Watch for his strong, attacking midfielder to impact games on the ball and tackle hard off the ball.

Harry Hawyes (Corinda)

Hawyes is a powerful and athletic central defender who has a great passing range - just what the doctor ordered in a big match.

Kelvin Grove SC were winners last season.

Michael Bradley (Cleveland District SHS)

Another player who gained valuable experience playing first team football in the men’s NPL for Redlands United.

Away from the pitch Bradley is a quiet soft-spoken person, but on the pitch he did not look out of place playing in the centre of the park against some of the state’s best players this season.

Lachlan Oestreich (Corinda SHS)

A wonderful centre midfielder, he is a real general with that unique ability to be able to control a game. He is a real general.

Lucan La Rosa (Cleveland District SGS)

A pacy winger who plays for Rochedale Rovers Under 23’s team, La Rosa has had a successful season both at school and club where he has scored many goals from the left wing. La Rosa is a confident player who will be looking forward to taking players on in big

games - like the SPL grand final.

Helensvale SHS grabbed the silverware in 2023.

Matthew Mure (Corinda SHS)

Hard working is the middle name of his centre back who is noted as a fierce defender. He is a real Mr Reliable of the Corinda line-up.

KELVIN GROVE v PBC (Pool A Senior girls)

Violet McKee (Kelvin Grove)

A finals’ specialist, McKee is a strong and composed centre back who is fresh off making the under-18 Australian Schoolgirls team. McKee plays her club football at the QAS in the NPLW.

Keona Pringault (PBC SHS)

Pringault leads the line with intensity and her work rate. Her capacity to press opposition defences is second to none and is a danger inside the penalty area as well.

Issy Anderson (Kelvin Grove)

Anderson is a dynamic midfielder who was recently in Perth as a member of the under-18 Queensland schoolgirls team. She has gathered invaluable experience playing for Brisbane City in the under-23 NPLW.

Bella Auld (PBC SHS)

Auld has been a rock at the back for PBC in 2024. Calm and reliable under pressure,

Auld breaks up play and is crucial in build up.

Tarryn Knight (Kelvin Grove)

A creative attacking player, Knight has moved down from FNQ where she previously attended Cairns SHS. Her football ability has been recognised and she plays in the QAS senior squad.

Ashleigh Adamson (PBC SHS)

Watch for his attacking midfielder with an eye for goal to have a say in the final. A member of the Queensland under-19 women’s team for the last two years, Adamson has made her NPLW debut for Gold Coast United. She is a game changing player.

The Marsden senior boys have made it to the grand final after capturing a minor premiership.

MARSDEN v CAVENDISH ROAD (Pool A boys)

Wil Avis (Cavendish Road SHS)

Avis is a dynamic attacker who can play anywhere across the front three. A player who has NPL first team experience, Avis has an explosive turn of pace and knows how to find the back of the net.

Caleb Butler (Marsden SHS)

An attacking mid fielder, Butler is one of those players with an eye for a goal that is invaluable in a big match.

Sam Flannery (Cavendish Road SHS)

A finals’ goalkeeper hero previously, he frustrates opposing attackers with his ability to defuse shots on goal. Another with NPL first team experience, he is a great all around shot stopper who also has lethal distribution.

Blake Koitka and Christophe Ngwenya (Marsden SHS)

Christophe is a striker with speed and tenacity while Blake is a goalkeeper who can mate big saves - while being comfortable with the ball at his feet. Both have been instrumental in Marsden’s season.

Huon Seelig (Cavendish Road)

Known for being a disciplined midfielder, Huon’s contribution often goes unnoticed - but not by his teammates. He has a great passing range with the ability to unlock all areas of the field.
