Live stream: Australian Olympic hopeful Rome Collyer a favourite at Rumble on the Reef

Only days after returning from Olympic qualifiers halfway around the world, Rome Collyer is back ‘home’ with one thing on his mind. Find out how to watch him LIVE at the Rumble on the Reef.

He was at the Olympic qualifiers in Switzerland just days ago.

Now Rome Collyer’s taking on Mackay’s very own Sugar Bowl for the sixth instalment of the Rumble on the Reef.

The Rumble on the Reef will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV. Watch all the action from Saturday’s finals LIVE.

Collyer counts himself a Mackay local, having resided in Finch Hatton for the past year. Although, by his own admission, he doesn’t get to spend much time there.

“It’s been good, but I haven’t had a chance to get into routine here because I’ve been travelling so much,” Collyer said.

“But Finch Hatton is really nice, it’s beautiful, it’s tropical, it’s a really nice place to come back and relax.”

Collyer’s no stranger to Mackay’s Rumble on the Reef, having taken out the event last season.

“It was amazing because it’s such a fun time,” he said of the win.

“It’s the biggest comp in Australia, to have that achievement is good.”

He believes the key to successes such as last year’s Rumble win was finding balance, not only on the board, but within his mind.

“Definitely staying calm, not letting your emotions get the better of you,” Collyer said.

“Always having fun, never taking it too seriously, but you have to care though; there’s a good balance.”

And he found that balance again in Thursday night’s qualifying semi-final, finishing first.

“I was happy with my first two runs, the third run I came unstuck because I was trying a new trick that I’ve just recently learnt,” Collyer said.

“I was stoked, everyone killed it and had a fun time.”

As for his recent Olympic qualifying venture in Switzerland: “I didn’t do too well but the whole trip and being in Switzerland was really nice, skating with everyone at that level is always good,” he said.

Collyer’s still well in the frame to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics however, with the 44 top-ranked skaters progressing to phase two of qualification.

He currently sits 35th.

And qualifying for the Olympics would mean ticking off a significant dream for Collyer, and take him a significant step closer to competing at Brisbane in 2032, but overall, his goals are simple.

“I wanna turn pro, just keep filming video parts, and go in as many comps as I can,” he said.

“Pretty much just skate.”
