North Queensland’s own Rome Collyer has cemented himself as the top street skater in the country after dominating the Rumble on the Reef finals.

Collyer locked in back-to-back Rumble on the Reef titles with a near faultless performance in the finals, blowing his competition away.

The Finch Hatton skateboarder, who only returned from an Olympic qualifying event in Switzerland earlier this week, showed little jetlag in his performance.

Collyer scored on nearly all of his attempts on the Sugar Bowl circuit, putting down three faultless runs to kickstart the finals session.

Collyer scored better than 70 points on all three of his initial runs to notch an almost-unbeatable combined total of 213.67 points before the competition turned to the best trick section.

While Daniel Woolley and Fano Connor pulled off some freakish manouvers in the best trick section, they couldn’t catch the Olympic hopeful.

Elite women’s street finals wrap

Australian Olympic hopeful Felicity Turner has capped off a huge season on the board, taking out the female championship at the Rumble on the Reef in Mackay.

Turner set the women’s final alight with her opening run on the Sugar Bowl course, locking in a monster 47.33 single-run score.

She capped off the performance with a classic crooked grind down the stair rail on her final best trick run, locking in a total final score of 133 points.

The final score was made up of her three best individual scores across three runs, and four attempts at a best trick.

The 16-year-old from Fairy Meadow on the NSW south coast, already had the win locked in before her final best trick run, but it put a final stamp of authority on her final victory.

Byron Bay young gun Ella Leadingham finished with the silver medal after finishing with a combined 119 points from the final, while Tayah Payne finished third with 109 points.

It caps off a massive year for Turner who was part of the Australia street skate team that competed in the Street World Skate Pro Tour in Europe this year.

Open socials final wrap

A full-kit Dolphins lover buying his score with free merch, to one of the biggest cavemans the Sugar Bowl has ever seen, the social final at the Rumble on the Reef really had it all.

But in the end it was the chilled-out, laid back style of Dean Cunningham that would prove undeniable as he took out the social final.

Cunningham finished with a top run score of 53.33, highlighted by a crisp blunt slide, narrowly edging out Michael Broderick who finished with a top run score of 47.67.

Broderick attempted to steal the win with his final run by attacking the huge nine-stair gap, but lost his footing in a tough wipe out.

Preview: Rumble on the Reef ready to send season out with a bang

First it was the Western Rumble in Perth back in March, then the action switched 4500km across the country for the Eastern Rumble at Ipswich.

Now a big year on the professional skateboarding tour of Australia wraps up with the Rumble on the Reef.

The sixth instalment of the event is set to take over the Sugar Bowl in Mackay from Tuesday, and it promises to be the biggest and best yet.

Adding to the intrigue and excitement will be the crowning of the series champions.

You can watch the final day of action from 6pm on Saturday LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV.

Some of the best skateboarders in the country will compete in social, masters, womens and mens street racing. See the schedule below.

Rumble on the Reef managing director Donny Fraser is thrilled with the level of skateboarding quality the Rumble tour has produced this year.

“Every year the competition levels get higher,” Fraser said.

Corey Nixon could be the skater to beat.

“The (Eastern Rumble) that just on was the best I’ve ever seen.

“Every single stop is just getting better and better to watch. I haven’t been so excited for one as I am this next week coming. We’ve got such a high-level of talent.”

In the men’s, it’s hoped Daniel Woolley and Rome Collyer can compete, with their availability dependent on being able to make it from the Olympic qualifiers, with a short turnaround between the two events.

Collyer would bring some Mackay region flavour to the Rumble on the Reef, as he resides in Finch Hatton.

The talented Dani Campbell, who missed the Olympic qualifiers due to an ankle injury, will also be competing.

But Fraser considers the favourite to be Corey Nixon.

“He’s just incredible, he won the qualifying and beat a lot of the top-tier athletes in the semi-finals,” Fraser said.

In the women’s, it’s hoped the likes of Chloe Covell, Felicity Turner, and Haylie Powell will be sighted, with the trio also at Olympic qualifiers.

There’s also a splash of international talent, with skaters from the Solomon Islands, Fiji, and New Zealand competing.

Fraser believes supporting skateboarding development in the Pacific Islands is an important initiative.

“Those guys have challenges with not having unlimited land for skateparks,” he said.

“Every year we have another country from the Pacific join in.”

“It’s amazing how much they progress, last year the Fiji guys that came had never skated at a skatepark… and they’re just absorbing all this knowledge around them.”
