NSW Waratahs have capped off a perfect week on the courts in the nation’s capital, taking out the gold medal at the Australian Netball Championships.
The unbeaten Waratahs cruised to the gold medal in Wednesday’s final knocking off homeside Capital Darters 57-49 grand final spectacle.

While the first half remained neck-and-neck - 13-all at quarter time and 26-all after two terms - Waratahs kicked into gear to win the second half 32-24.
Keeping in form, GWS Giants Academy shooter Millie Tonkin put on a top-notch performance under pressure to execute 37 of her 39 shots, showing off her range in the process.
The Waratahs’ depth from coast to coast was on full display, Kiara Bloor taking on roles in the circle and center third to accompany the mid-court pack of Isabella Degei, Charlotte Smith, Ella Johnson and Courtney Castle.
Defensively, Brooke Paterson, Eloise Egan, Mia Baggett and Katerina Sincek took turns in the circle to halt Darters shooter Nalani Makunde, who finished with 39 goals at 95% accuracy.
The home side made little change to their attacking line-up, Makunde and Amber Brophy playing full minutes under the post with 88% combined shooting.
Devastated to let a maiden ANC title slip away on home soil, ACT can still walk away pleased with a silver medal and eyes on 2025.
Bronze Medal: Black Swans v Territory Storm
The First Nations Black Swans have claimed bronze over a tenacious Territory Storm side 48-36, mid-courter Tia Molo providing flare through the centre and an almighty defensive effort.
Storm were just one goal behind heading into the second quarter, but with shot accuracy dropping below 65%, Swans found their stride and ran ahead.

West Australian shooter Jamaica Jauncey took majority of the under-post duties, putting up 33 goals off 40 attempts in three and a half quarters before Charlotte Ryan took to court with six of six.
Goal attack Olivia Clark was a utility weapon, providing a further nine to the Swans’ tally.
The Territory’s Chelsea Coleman managed a team high 16, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Swans from gliding to their third place finish.

DAY 3 REVIEW
Capital Darters v First Nations Black Swans
The Darters skipper was at the heart of the victory, scoring an awe-inspiring 44 goals from 45 attempts.
It was a near-perfect display from the Queensland Firebirds Futures and Brisbane North Cougars shooter which capped off a 59-46 win over the Black Swans.
The home side won all four quarters, though it was the third term which made all the difference.
They went into the term just four in front and came out with a 12-goal advantage with Randwick midcourter Milla Papallo making plenty of impact off the pine for the Darters.
Olivia Clark offered some relief for the Swans, executing 17 off 21 attempts but to no avail.
The Black Swans will now take on the winless Territory Storm for the bronze medal on Wednesday, which will kick start the live stream action from 11am.
NSW Waratahs v Territory Storm
New South Wales Waratahs showed no mercy to the Territory Storm in their day three head-to-head, putting on a blistering 65-31 performance to claim the competition’s biggest win thus far.
Millie Tonkin once again top scored for the Sky Blues with 30 from 35 attempts coming off the bench, followed by 15 from 22 attempts at the hands of Olivia Harris.
Hinemoa Boylan and Kiara Bloor took on their chance to start in GS and GA respectively, Boylan shooting at 77% while Bloor finished with 83% from 12.
On the Territory bench it was Chelsea Coleman under the post who scored a team high 15, Brooke Wilson adding 14.
Waratahs’ third quarter was a statement and a half to teams watching on, putting 18 goals up to Storm’s two.
It solidified their already 11-goal lead and all but closed the door to a potential comeback.
DAY TWO REPLAYS
NSW Waratahs v First Nations Black Swans
The NSW Waratahs will enter the penultimate day of the Australian Netball Championships as the team to beat after continuing their unbeaten start to the tournament.
The sky blues were forced to work for it though, digging deep in a dominant third quarter to overcome a willing First Nations Black Swans side 61-50 on Monday.
NSW Giants Academy trio Olivia Harris, Millie Tonkin and Ella Johnson shone in Waratahs starting lineup, Tonkin shooting a perfect 31-of-31, along with Harris’ 11 goals at 73 per cent.
In what could easily be a precursor to the gold medal match at the ANC tournament, the Black Swans took the fight to their rivals across the first half.
Pitted against Johnson through the midcourt, Queensland sisters Tia and Jayden Molo were pivotal in keeping the Swans’ score ticking while Western Australian young gun Jamaica Jauncey made her presence known under the post with a team high 28 goals from 29 attempts.
The Swans fought to within two points during the third term but let slip crucial possessions which ignited a Waratahs run of 14-6 to close the quarter.
The Waratahs did enough to hold out their rivals in the run to the finish, taking the final quarter 14-13 to cap off a great second round of action.
Capital Darters v Territory Storm
The Capital Darters bounced back from an opening day-loss at the Australian Netball Championships to defeat the Territory Storm 79-46, putting on a stellar shot performance at 90% team accuracy.
A fourth quarter blitz of 23 to 8 was enough to cut short any comeback, the NT now sitting 0-2 after two days of play.
Connecting 79 of 88 attempts as a squad, the convincing victory levelled the Darters tournament record 1-1.
Queensland-based goal shooter Nalani Makunde top scored for the match with an impressive 35 from 36 while young recruit Sophia Martinussen featured for 32 off 36 attempts.
Storm’s Chelsea Coleman headlined her side’s scoreboard with 22 from 23, accumulating just short of 50% of their total.
DAY ONE REVIEW
Black Swans v Territory Storm
The First Nations Black Swans commenced their Australian Netball Championships campaign with a strong 58-44 win over the Territory Storm in Canberra.
The two sides went goal-for-goal early in the contest before the Black Swans were able to put on a run of four-straight to take a slight advantage.
Territory fought back hard though to trail by just two at the first change.
Another run from the Black Swans made life difficult for the Storm, this time piling on five goals in a row to lead by as much as eight, before Territory pulled it back slightly to trail 28-22 at halftime.
The class of the Black Swans shone through in the third as they raced away to take a commanding 10-goal margin into the final term that would prove too much for the Territory to breach.
NSW Waratahs v Capital Darters
NSW has flexed its muscles with a convincing 57-43 defeat of the ACT Darters to close out day one of the Australian Netball Championships.
The ACT got off to a flying start to lead 6-3 early doors, before the defence of NSW stood tall. For the final 10 minutes of the quarter they conceded just four goals to take the advantage 14-10.
Just as NSW threatened to runaway with things the ACT was able to eat into the deficit, before NSW closed out the half on a 7-2 run to take a comfortable eight-goal lead at the main break.
NSW kept in form by adding another four goals to push it out to 12 heading into the final 15 minutes, a margin the ACT was unable to reel in.

One of the big highlights of day one is sure to be the fierce contest under the post between Black Swan and Queensland shooter/goal attack Lily Cubby and the Territory’s Queensland-based defender Emily Nesbitt.
The pair boast extensive Sapphire Series experience and Nesbitt is also an Australian indoor mixed representative.
HOW HOME CROWD CAN INSPIRE ACT TO MAIDEN TITLE
The First Nations team also features mid-court sister duo Tia and Jayden Molo, who will be up against Gold Coast-based NT player Courtney Murphy.
Jamaica Jauncey, who is based in Broome, is arguably coming from the furthest away to play.
The Teritory team will have their own set of siblings, with Brooke and Carly Wilson teaming up.
Meanwhile, the Waratahs’ defensive circle will be put to the test against ACT’s shooting roster of Chloe Arnold, Hayley Matthew and Sophia Martinussen.
Arnold and Matthew have been developing their game in Queensland’s Sapphire Series alongside defender Nalani Makunde.
Martinussen is yet to branch out from the nation’s capital, but standing at 196cm, the 16-year-old is commanding figure despite her youth.
This match-up could be pivotal for the hosts as they search for a maiden ANC title.
