2025 Tasmanian Netball League live stream: Hawks v Cavaliers, Round 19

The TNL minor premiership is all but in the bag for the dominant Cavaliers after they put Launceston rival Hawks to the sword in a decisive display on Friday night. Watch the full match REPLAYS.

Cavaliers’ stranglehold on the Tasmanian Netball League has continued with arch rival Hawks their 14th victim for the season.

The ladder leaders were superb on Friday night, dispatching the reigning premiers 56-39 in the Launceston derby at the Superdome.

It means there is now a four-win gap between the two sides who faced off in last year’s grand final.

Both the Opens and 19&U TNL clashes were exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV.

The Hawks had little answer for the powerful Cavs line up, which welcomed back

Sophie Brewer, Grace Ebbelaar, Sophie Blackberry and Paige O’Neill from Super Netball Reserves finals duties with the Tasmania Wild.

That quartet was among several strong performers, including shooted Hayley McDougall who netted a game-high 42 goals.

Courtney Treloar led the way for Hawks with 21 goals.

In the 19&U clash, Hawks extended their lead at the top of the ladder with a convincing 66-36 victory.

PREVIEW

They haven’t played for five weeks, but Cavaliers coach Katie O’Neill is confident the long layoff won’t affect their challenging Tasmanian Netball League double header this weekend.

The Cavaliers take on the Hawks in the Launceston derby on Friday night in a live streamed clash exclusively on KommunityTV before travelling to Hobart to play South East Suns on Saturday afternoon.

The tough schedule has arisen after four Cavs players played for Tasmania Wild in last week’s Super Netball reserves tournament.

As a result the Suns, who will also back up after playing Karana Friday night, agreed to reschedule the game against Cavs from last weekend to Saturday.

The decision to declare their Kingston clash a draw a fortnight ago means the unbeaten Cavs have not played since May 24, but O’Neill won’t use it as an excuse before Friday’s grand final rematch.

“The Wild girls have been playing at a strong level, but the other girls at home have been working really hard at training,” she said.

“We’ve had limited numbers but we’ve made sure we don’t take the foot off the pedal, and that the sessions are at high intensity.

“The Wild girls weren’t allowed to train Monday night, and are on loading tonight (Wednesday). We’ve hopefully done enough work throughout the year that hopefully it doesn’t take too long for the wheels to turn and get back in the swing of things.

“We’re lucky enough the Suns accommodating the change, because they could have said we’re not moving it and you play with just a few players.”

They beat Northern Territory and went down narrowly to GWS Giants reserves by four goals.

Paige, Katie’s daughter was also invited to trial for the under-21 national team on Monday this week.

“It’s good for them to get exposure to that type of competition those (Super Netball reserves) girls get week in week out, and something to strive towards,” O’Neill said.

“There was a lot of Australian selectors there watching, and it’s good exposure for some of the girls to get looked at.”

The Hawks (9-5) have won the past three TNL flags, but are in third place before the clash with the Cavaliers (13-0).

“We’ve had some great contests in the derby, there’s always lots of people there on a Friday night and it’s always a good, close game,” O’Neill said.

“We want a few of those hard contests heading into finals. We’re looking forward to getting a good start, it’s something we’ve worked hard on to not play catch up netball.

“There’s some really good match ups, with Grace (Close, Hawks shooter) and Paige, and Lynette (Childs, Hawks defender) and Dougs (Cavs shooter Hayley McDougall) up the other end and probably Lydia (Coote) and Shelbs (Cavs captain Shelby Miller) in the middle.

“It’s a game which can go either way, but we go into it with confidence knowing it’ll be a grind.”
