The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships will launch on Thursday featuring 134 teams and more than 2000 competitors across the under 14, under 16 and under 18 age groups.
News Corp will stream 51 matches across five days of the championships (April 14-18) from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

News Corp’s streaming includes every medal match from the top division of each age group on Monday, April 18 which culminates in the gold medal decider of the under-18 boys.
The competition features the best emerging players from across the country and below we feature just 30 players from a galaxy of young stars who will be Players to Watch.

16 years and under girls
Bridget Cranley - Canberra/Melville Dolphins (WA)
Bridget is a current member of the Australian Cadet Women’s team, selected following the
Summer Slam in Brisbane earlier this year. She’ll be one to watch in the Canberra/Melville
Dolphins campaign.
Jemma Potts - Richmond (VIC)
This young Victorian player has hopes of following in the footsteps of her idol, and fellow
Victorian, Rowie Webster. Playing in the yellow and black for Richmond in Brisbane, she’ll be one to watch.
Tilly Hughes - St Rita’s College (Qld)
The inform Hughes is coming off a tremendous campaign for the North Brisbane Polo Bears at the Water Polo Queensland state titles, where her side was 20 seconds from taking the grand final into a shoot out. In this tournament she will switch to representing his school, St Rita’s College.
Isla Mulligan - Triton (WA)
Isla is a young goal keeper on the rise, and having had limited access to national competitions
in the last two years due to border closures, this youngster will be looking to impress at the 2022
Lucy Levenbery-Penklis - Sydney University (NSW)
The student from International Grammar School in Sydney also excels in the pool, and will
travel to Brisbane with the Sydney University Lions for the Australian Youth Water Polo
Championships.

Chelsea Isaac - Drummoyne (NSW)
Chelsea Isaac is a budding young Devil, who demonstrated her potential at the 2022 Summer
Slam, earning her a spot in the Australian Cadet squad for 2022.
18 years and under girls
Sienna Green - Sydney University (NSW)
This Sydney junior has been a stand out for Sydney Uni for a number of years, and was
rewarded with selection to the Aussie Stingers squad who travelled to Peru for the FINA World League Intercontinental Cup in Peru.
Taafili Taoso - Mermaids (QLD)
The centre forward, 16, has progressed at a rate of knots in 2021-22 after only starting in the sport three years ago. She has represented Queensland Thunder in the AWL and last week scored the winner for Mermaids at the under 16 state titles.
Layla Smith - UTS Balmain Tigers (NSW)
The daughter of Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist Bronwyn Smith, and former Wallabies
player Damian Smith, Layla has had a sensational season so far in 2022. A standout at the
recent 2022 Summer Slam, Layla will be key for Balmain in Brisbane.
Annie Cowan and Tori Kininmonth - both Mermaids (QLD)
Both goal keepers, Cowan and Kininmonth go together like a strawberry on top of an ice cream at the EKKA, and will again be blockading rivals at the youth championships. The girls at top notch goalies who remarkably share half a game each for the crack Mermaids outfit - something they have been doing since the under 12 age group.
Tayla Dawkins - Adelaide Jets (SA)
Dawkins was impressive at the 2022 Summer Slam, and will form a crucial part of the Adelaide Jets under 18 girls team at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships. Dawkins also played for the FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets in the Australian Waterpolo League.
Molly Nasser (Mermaids) and Amelia Watt (Polo Bears) - both QLD
The girls have returned from long shoulder lay-offs to quickly gather match fitness and timing over the last month playing for their respective clubs in the BWPI finals, the state titles and also two outings as subs for the Queensland Thunder.
Stella Radojcic - Richmond (VIC)
Stella is a young goal keeper on the rise for Richmond. Stella has only been playing the sport
for a couple of years, but has improved out of sight in the last 12 months.
Allegra Childs - Triton/UWA (WA)
Allegra is a rising star from Western Australia, and was part of the UWA Torpedoes national
league squad for 2022. She will be one to watch at the Australian Youth Water Polo
Championships.
Lulu Elliott (Mermaids)
Elliott has taken her game to another level this season after benefiting from playing exposure with the Queensland Thunder in the AWL.
16 years and under boys
Ashton Brown - Sydney University (NSW)
Ashton is a consistent performer for the Sydney Uni Lions, and will be key to their success in
Brisbane.
Zac Izzard - Sydney University (NSW)
Zac was part of the NSW team that won the 2022 Summer Slam in Brisbane, and was named
as part of the Australian Cadet men’s squad for 2022. He’ll be one to watch at the Australian
Youth Water Polo Championships.
Pavle Macic - Melbourne Collegians (VIC)
Pavle is a crucial member of the Melbourne Collegians team, and will be looking for a big Australian Youth Water Polo Championships campaign.
Blake Jennison - UQWPC Barras (Qld)
Jennison is coming off a rousing state titles campaign where he snared MVP in the under 14s. He will be playing up in his age group but won’t be daunted by the occasion.
Sebastian Houston - Melville (WA)
Having been playing in the local WA competitions for the past 2 years, Sebastian is looking
forward to the opportunity of playing against interstate teams again at the Australian Youth
Water Polo Championships.
Spencer Burdack - Hunter Hurricanes (NSW)
Spencer had an outstanding season for the Hunter Hurricanes in the 2022 Australian Waterpolo League, and will look to continue that momentum into the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
18 years and under boys
Will Griffiths - Nordek (ACT)
Will is a strong centre forward from the ACT, and a great outside shooter. He’ll be one to watch for Nordek.
Samson Magasanik - Melbourne Collegians (VIC)
Samson was a member of the inaugural Victorian Phoenix Australian Waterpolo League team in 2022. He will be one to watch at the Youth Championships.
Will Valentine - UQWPC Barras (Qld)
Valentine is coming off a MVP award-winning effort for Barras at the state titles - an outstanding achievement given the quality of young athlete on show.
Sam McKenzie - Adelaide Tritons (SA)
Sam is the captain of the Adelaide Tritons who will play at the Australian Youth Water Polo
Championships. He will lead with experience, and look to use his learnings from his time as part of the Australian Youth Men’s squad.
Jack Fodor - UQWPC Barras (Qld)
Match hardened by playing for Queensland Thunder in the AWL, the year 12 Brisbane Boys College student has matured gone from a rookie to a leader across the 2021-22 season.
Patrick Dart - Melville (WA)
In the last Australian Youth Water Polo Championships that was held, Patrick was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Can he claim the title again in 2022?
Koby Gilchrist - Cronulla (NSW)
The younger brother of Rio Olympian Jarrod Gilchrist, Koby is paving his own way through the sport and was recently announced as part of the Australian Youth Men’s squad for 2022.
