Palm Beach Currumbin big-bopper Kwinn Wolff scored a golden grand final try to lift his side to a dramatic 12-8 Walters Cup grand final win over a brave Wavell SHS.
Wolff, a young giant, thundered over from close range six minutes from fulltime to douse an enterprising Wavell’s push for victory.

The big bloke raised his right arm in jubilation, then booted the ball into the air in celebration after crossing for the game-defining try in a match which could have gone either way.
PBC SHS needed that converted try to withstand a surging Wavell who scored one minute from fulltime (Tame Liku) to give themselves the chance of a last second try.
Wolff was not the only good big man on the day - the best forward on the field was PBC SHS edge forward Nelson Makaafi who was enormous.
Wavell had their heroes as well, with scrum base trio Azariah Toki-Matauri, Timahna Tandy and Payten Gifford mighty, while PBC centre Hudson Pratt was the man of the match.

No school side knows how to apply pressure better on grand final day than a PBC SHS outfit and that is exactly what happened.
For the first 20 minutes onlookers got a sore neck looking at one end of the field as PBC SHS applied the blow torch, winning the battle for territory.
Eventually PBC SHS scored, with lock Brodie Saunders burrowing over.
Down 6-nil at halftime, Wavell resumed a rejuvenated out full of vim and vigor.
Forwards Toki-Matauri, Spicer and Polson set a high standard as Wavell drove their way into the match with quick play-the-balls and slick tactical kicking by halves Gifford and Tandy.
Wavell then closed the gap to just 6-4 when centre Tremaine Courteney blasted over in brilliant fashion, and it was anyone’s match.
Langer Reserves Grand Final Wrap/Replay
Ipswich SHS’s Emmanuel Kasunga scored two dramatic tries on the biggest stage of season - grand final day - to raise his side to a edge-of-your-seat Langer Reserve premiership over Marsden SHS by 22-16.
Left centre Kasunga, resplendent in blazing orange boots, looked more like he should have been running in the 100m at the world track and field championships currently being staged in Budapest, rather than playing footy at suburban Langlands Park.
Marsden rallied late, with Te Whui Hopa inspiring a strongsurge, but Ipswich SHS hung on.
Gosh, ipswich SHS’s Kasunga has speed.
He scored a sensational first half try, blasting through the line, weaving and holding his pace during a 40m tilt toward the goal posts.
That try, and Tom Parker’s conversion, leveled the scores 6-all after Marsden had opened the scoring.
Then in the second half he plucked a bouncing grubber kick out of the air to score, and later offered a perfect catch-pass to put his winger Obede Niyonyishu over.
Those three tries, Tom Parker’s perfect goal kicking and cast iron kick-chase defence drove Ipswich to the premiership.
Marsden SHS had the perfect start when halfback Hayden Watson guided a crossfield bomb into the arms of an unmarked winger Isaiyah Petroevich. Watson then laser guided over a sideline conversion and it was 6-nil.

WALTERS CUP
Timahina Tandy (Wavell SHS)
He played fullback in the Met North rep side, but he has the steering wheel as halfback of his Wavell SHS which is careering toward Wednesday’s grand final against PBC SHS.
Tandy is a natural ball player, also a smart runner with the step of a fullback.
Tandy plays eyes up football and is a perfect blend for the steady No.13 Azariah Toki-Matauri, and his halves partner, Payten Cifford.
Azariah Toki-Matauri (Wavell SHS)
Toki-Matauri is a bit of everything and really plays the role of one and a half players.
He is as tough as any No.13, but has the deceit of a ball playing half and can also take the line on.
His impressive repertoire includes being an inspirational leader.

Harrison Doherty and Taj Lateo (PBC SHS)
Doherty had big shoes to fill, in last Wednesday’s semi-final against Marsden SHS, covering for the injured No.7 and captain Marley McLaren.
But he was Mr Cool - and took it all in his stride. If he was nervous, he didn’t show it.
Doherty didn’t try to be McLaren, rather he played his own game.
This included a nice attacking kicking game, which brought athletic ace Dylan Patterson into the game with his high leaping efforts. Doherty also kicked four goals from as many attempts.
PBC SHS coach Will Johsntone heaped praise on Doherty and five-eight Lateo.
“It is a big blow losing Marley, but I thought the guys that stepped up for him today, Harrison Doherty and Taj Lateo, are both mature young kids with nice controlled heads.
“In the semi-final we gave them a very simple roled and they were able to execute their roles and steer the team around.’’

LANGER RESERVES
Ipswich SHS v Marsden SHS
Emmanuel Kasunga (Ipswich SHS)
The light footed centre has been key to the success of the Ipswich SHS Langer Reserve team in 2023. In the semi Final he scored two tries and set up a third. How many tries will he score or create on grand final day?
Tom Parker (Ipswich SHS)
The talented Parker is a classy player who can deal blows with his ridiculous side step and with his x-factor in the back pocket, Ipswich are in safe hands.
Xzavier Timoteo, Cooper Cracknell and Mafiou Cherif are also elite forwards who will play a big part in this contest.
Adaquix Luke (Marsden SHS)
Hampered by injuries earlier in the competition, fullback came into his own in the semi-final and has the X-factor to cause defensive line issues. Watch for his impact around the ruck. He is a natural football.
