Ipswich SHS hit their straps in round three of the Langer Trophy, ending the first half of their season on a high note with a rousing 34-18 success over Wavell SHS.
The defending National Schoolboys champions shot out to an 14-0 lead with three tries in the first 10 minutes, quickly deflating the Wavell side.
From there, it was an uphill battle for Wavell, a very talented side who are struggling to find continuity at the moment.
The score didn’t reflect how dominant Ipswich were, a late flurry of consolation tries, including a Mereki Waradoo double, reduced Ipswich’s buffer.
.
Wavell’s time will come, but on this brisk Wednesday evening the reigning premiers were a well-oiled machine, producing tries one after the other.
The imposing figures of David Leota and Oliva Iaulualo, and the crash running of Cayleb Johnson, Jack Laing and Kane Self, proved a cocktail for success.
The outstanding work of hooker Tyler Peckham-Harris and fullback Dom Sandow were also a highlight.
Indeed, the backline was on song, Keisaia Su’A, a New Zealand talent, and Anton Naiyep, a fantastic wing finisher from Papua New Guinea, wreaking havoc down the right edge.
This was clearly Ipswich’s best performance yet.

PREVIEW
There are two reasons why Ipswich SHS - the reigning Langer Trophy, Phil Hall Cup and National Schoolboys champions - are, again, on the crest of a wave.
The first is simple - winning form. They showed their first round defeat to Keebra Park was an anomaly by beating Redcliffe convincingly in round two.
The second surrounds the heart and soul of their side - Tyler Peckham-Harris and powerful Year 11 prop Mafiou Cherif.
Both have recently inked NRL deals.
Catch them in action LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on KommunityTV when Ipswich face Wavell as part of a massive four-game Langer Trophy extravaganza from 4.30pm on Wednesday. See the full round three schedule below.
For Peckham-Harris, the NRL deal with the Dragons was everything he was after.
After steering his side to National Schoolboys Cup glory last season, he decided to have another go around with the hopes of getting signed.
Standing at 165cm, Peckham-Harris moved from fullback to hooker this season to test the waters and try his luck. In the Meninga Cup for the Ipswich Jets, and for Ipswich SHS in this tournament, he has been very impressive.
Cherif played alongside Peckham-Harris in the Ipswich Jets Meninga Cup team this year and will join the North Queensland Cowboys next year when he finishes Year 12.
There is a lot to like about him. He’s tall, mobile and as physical as they come.
In the Walters Cup last year, he was a prolific tryscorer and a hit man.
Making it two wins on the trot though will not come easy for Ipswich, with Wavell hurting from a shock defeat to Mabel Park last week.
Wavell SHS coach Paul Stanley will surely have his side ready and raring to go for this home game.
