2025 ASSRL Nationals live stream: Watch day three of the Under-18 Championships

It was a day full of thrilling results at the ASSRL National Championships with grand final hopefuls emerging. Watch the REPLAYS and find out what NRL reporter Brent Read learned on deck on Coffs Harbour.

New South Wales Combined High Schools and Queensland will meet in Thursday’s ASSRL Under-18 girls grand final after memorable semi-final victories on Tuesday.

The traditional rivals looked equally as impressive in their respective wins, with NSW CHS knocking off NSW CIS 24-12 and Queensland defeating NSW Combined Catholic Colleges 14-8.

But while two golden point wins in the girls tournament definitely turned some heads, the moment of the day belonged to a NSW Combined High Schools spedster.

EJ Mahu-Delamere extended his contract at the Sydney Roosters last year until the end of 2026. You can see why after he produced a moment of outrageous brilliance in NSW CHS win over CAS to set up a try for Phoenix Godinet in the 28th minute. Check it out above.

Watch every REPLAY from Day 3 below and scroll down to find out what we learned and see our top players of the day.

WHAT WE LEARNED

NSWCCC BOUNCE BACK

The NSW Combined Catholic Colleges copped a hammering in their opening game at the nationals at the hands of the Combined Independent Schools.

On Tuesday, they bounced back against the ACT. They set up their win with a brilliant first half orchestrated by halfback Chase Butler and fullback Cameron Bamblett.

Butler, aligned with Newcastle, and Bamblett, emerging through the Parramatta pathways, were too much to handle for the team from the nation’s capital.

By halftime, they had raced in five tries and shot out to a 28-0 lead. They put the cue in the rack in the second half as they cruised to victory.

There was plenty to like about their performance given they were coming off a disappointing display to open their carnival.

This was more like it.

BATTEN PASSES ANOTHER TEST

NSW Combined High Schools halfback Toby Batten opened the championships with a starring role in a draw with Queensland.

Against Combined Affiliated States, he picked up where he left off.

Fresh off inking a deal with the Dolphins, Batten was once again brilliant as CHS dominated their interstate rivals.

CAS had no answer to their attacking brilliance as they piled on points early. Winger Filipe Fakauho helped himself to a hat trick inside the opening 24 minutes.

The three tries were mirror images of each other. All involved a sweeping backline movement that started with Batten and culminated in Fakauho being handed a saloon passage to the line.

After that, it was a procession.

SUMMER SHINES IN WA WIN

Perth is on their way to the NRL in little over a year. Maybe they should be planning a women’s team as well given the way their girls stunned the ACT on Tuesday at the national championships.

After a big win over Victoria in their opening game of the tournament, they went back-to-back as they won a tight contest against the ACT in golden point.

The WA side raced out to a fast start but the ACT clawed their way back into the game as they leveled the scores at 20-20 with a try inside the final six minutes to Adelaide Norris.

Summer Barton was the hero in extra time as she scored in the corner of WA to secure victory.

NT WINS MARATHON MATCH

It took seven minutes in extra time but the Northern Territory emerged victorious against Victoria. NT scored almost from the kick-off as they made a flying start in Coffs Harbour.

It took them only 41 seconds to get off the mark and they added another two tries in rapid succession, but they were made to wait to confirm the win as Victoria dug in for a fight.

The Victorians had a chance to hit the front late in the second half with a shot at conversion. It wasn’t to be and NT hooker Okalani Compton emerged the hero in extra time when she darted out of dummy half to secure victory.

MAROONS HOLD ON

Queensland bolted out to an early lead against NSW CCC, at one point leading 14-0 after star halfback Evelyn Roberts scored early in the second half.

At that point it looked like they were home and hosed, and the Maroons acted like it.

NSW CCC gave themselves the sniff of a late comeback with a brace of tries late.

Ultimately they fell short as Queensland held on to secure a six-point victory.

CHS TERRIFIC TANDEM HEATING UP

While it wasn’t quite the 38-point margin they trounced intrastate rivals NSW CIS by just days ago, Tuesday’s 24-12 victory for NSW CHS was equally as impressive.

Two players instrumental in the semi-final win were Jayda Durham and Sharon Latapu.

Both finished with two tries each, with all four coming at crucial stages of the contest.

Down 8-0 after the first 20 minutes of the first-half, CHS needed a spark that was provided by Durham – not once, but twice.

The winger found the try line in the exact same spot in the right corner to tie the game going into half time and swing any momentum CIS had built back into CHS favour.

While CIS fought back after the break with a quick try, Latapu sealed her side’s grand final fate with back-to-back tries.

TOP PLAYERS OF THE DAY

BOYS

Toby Batten (NSW CHS)

Batten was a star on day one of the national titles and he backed it up again on Tuesday as he orchestrated a big win over the ACT. The classy half, formerly on the books at the Bulldogs but now at the Dolphins, oozes class.

Chase Butler (NSWCCC)

Butler recently extended at Newcastle amid interest from elsewhere and you can see why the Knights were so keen to do a new deal after he masterminded a big win over ACT. The No.7 had a hand in all the highlights for the Combined Catholic Colleges.

Phoenix Godinet (NSW CHS)

The Wests Tigers have some promising young players coming through their system and Godinet is among them. The Combined High Schools back rower was a handful on Tuesday as he scored a couple of tries in a big win for his side.

GIRLS

Ella Ropata (NSW CHS)

The Combined High School girls were on the back foot early but Ropata led the comeback as she showed her class. The Sharks playmaker is a star.

Croyston sisters (WA)

The Croyston sisters - Mackenzie and Saskia - were brilliant in WA’s win over the ACT. Sheer class.
