Semi-finals spots are up for grabs as the final group stage games are played at the Basketball Queensland Under-18 State Championships on the Gold Coast.

Everything has gone to plan for most of the teams considered gold medal contenders for both girls and boys Division 1 tournaments but there have been some surprises after two days of competition.

WATCH REPLAY: GOLD COAST WAVES, 69 DEFEAT MORETON BAY FIRE, 50 (BOYS DIV 2)

The Gold Coast Waves have secured a top two spot in their pool after a 19-point win over the Moreton Bay Fire to tip-off day three of the Basketball Queensland State Championships.

Gold Coast needed a win to progress through to the next stage and they came out desperate, taking the fight to Moreton Bay and it resulted in an early double digit lead.

Moreton Bay continued to try and fight back but the Waves were too good to record a much-needed victory and earn a playoffs appearance on their home court.

REPLAY: BRISBANE CAPITALS GOLD, 48 DEFEAT GOLD COAST WAVES, 46

The Brisbane Capitals have fought off a late challenge from the Gold Coast Waves to record a two-point victory and end their pool stage with a win.

Brisbane needed to bounce back after a loss to Logan on Thursday which meant they could not make the semifinals but the Waves made it hard work for the Capitals pushing until the very end to try and earn their second win of the tournament.

But Hilary Fuller and Lili Schmitt made enough plays for the Capitals to hold on to the slightest of victories.

Mia Jordan led the scoring for Gold Coast with 11.
