2025 AFLQ Schools Cup live stream: Watch every match on Day 2 of the state finals

Teams from far and wide – including Thursday Island – will face off to decide the primary titles at the AFLQ Schools Cup state finals on Saturday. Watch the replays here.

For some schools the path to the AFLQ Schools Cup state finals has not been easy, but it’s nothing like the journey some Tagai State College players have endured.

And they’ve made it worth every second.

The school made the trip all the way from Thursday Island to compete in the primary female division finals in Maroochydore.

And the 2300km journey has been a first for many of the junior female players, with one player in particular tallying up three flights, a ferry and an hour long bus ride just to pull on the Tagai jumper.

The Torres Strait Islands college took on Mango Hill State School on Saturday in their first game on day two of the finals, with all five ovals livestreamed exclusively on KommunityTV.

After a run of mixed results on day one, they showed every bit of their skill with four shut-out wins on Saturday.

“The girls are absolutely loving it,” Tagai head coach Kieran Sciberras said.

“It was a big effort to get here and it will be another long journey home but they’ve all said their favourite part has been playing with their friends and classmates.

“Usually for the girls who are lucky enough to be selected in representative teams it’s with players from down South like Cairns so this has been very special for a lot of them.”

Tagai recorded a 24-point victory over Camira State School and a seven-point defeat to All Saints Anglican School in their opening two games on Friday.

Despite the sunny temperatures of 28 and 30 degrees, most players were still wearing jumpers and tracksuit pants in an attempt to acclimatise.

“They were covered head to toe this morning as it is different weather than they are used to but they perked up a bit as the day went on,” Sciberras said.

“After their first few games on Friday they were very excited to get to the Bli Bli Aqua Park to cool off and have some more fun.”
