Despite a six-division sweep out of reach, PBC kept their opposition on notice after their preliminary finals performances included a 104-point win over St Augustine’s in the senior male, 66-points over Trinity Bay in the senior female, 121-points over St Monica’s in the youth female, 106-points over Kirwan in the junior male and 105-points over St Margaret Mary’s in the junior female.

They will meet St Laurence’s (senior male), St Peters Lutheran (senior female), Varsity (youth female), St Laurence’s (junior male) and Helensvale (junior female) who will be looking to put a stop to PBC’s AFLQ Schools Cup dominance.

PREVIEW

The 2025 AFLQ Schools Cup finals are set to be an Aussie rules extravaganza with 62 teams taking to the field across three huge days of action.

A record number 856 teams and more than 17,000 students have taken part in this year's overall competition with the remaining top sides battling it out for silverware at the Maroochydore Multisports Complex on the Sunshine Coast from October 17-19.

Schools stretched from Cape York to the Gold Coast and everywhere in between will compete across seven divisions, with every match exclusively live streamed on Kommunity TV through the Courier Mail and Gold Coast Bulletin mastheads.

Games from Ovals 1-5 will be streamed live on both Friday and Saturday with Ovals 1-4 streamed on Sunday.

Local team Mountain Creek State High School will be flying the flag for the Sunshine Coast in the youth female division with a tough preliminary finals matchup against Varsity College.

“The girls are really looking forward to getting out there,” Mountain Creek SHS head coach Mimi Hogan said.

“It’s a great testament to the effort and commitment they’ve put in over the past four seasons, they’ve really come together as a group and play a great brand of attacking footy.

“It will be very special to play at home in front of family and friends, majority of our girls play club footy at Maroochydore so it’s cool they’ve been able to progress this far.”

Heavyweights Palm Beach Currumbin will play Cairns-based St Monica’s College in the other preliminary matchup with the winners to progress to Sunday’s grand final and the losers to battle it out in a third place playoff.

“We know Varsity will be a very tough side that play very contested so it will be a close contest right to the end,” Mountain Creek SHS captain Freya McIntosh said.
