PREVIEW

Fresh off a groundbreaking AFL finals series for the state of Queensland, the next generation of football talent will be looking to make their mark when the 2025 AFL Queensland State Academy Carnival kicks off next week.

Bringing together the best under-14 talent from across Queensland, along with teams from Papua New Guinea and Nauru, the three-day carnival is regarded as one of the most important on the Queensland pathways calendar.

KommunityTV will bring you all the action live and exclusively across three fields from Maroochydore’s Multisports Complex, kicking off from 10am on Monday, September 22.

Head of AFL Queensland and International Trisha Squires said the competition will be an opportunity for Queensland and international athletes to demonstrate their talent and passion for the game.

“Not only will our Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS academies from across Queensland have the opportunity to play, we will also see players from Nauru and Papua New Guinea compete,” she said.

“This carnival is an opportunity for all players to showcase their skills and attributes and to learn what’s available in the talent pathway.

“This year the AFL celebrated a national registered participation record, with 600,000 Australians participating in our great game, with Queensland playing a major role in this outcome, up 13 per cent year-on-year.

“We have a strong pathway in Queensland from grassroots all the way through to the elite game and this competition is another opportunity for our talent coming through.”

With current day AFL and AFLW players Jaspa Fletcher (Brisbane), Connor Budarick (Gold Coast), Jed Walter (Gold Coast), Will Ashcroft (Brisbane), Ethan Read (Gold Coast), Bruce Reville (Brisbane), Havana Harris (Gold Coast) and Charlotte Mullins (Brisbane) have all taken part in previous years, the next future star could line up in 2025.
