BEST BET

Race 1 No.4: American Kestrel

Has been just behind the placegetters at her two starts for Michael Travers. Can break through for her maiden win

INSIDE MAIL: KEMBLA

RACE 1

King Of Thunder had good support on debut when backed from $3.20 into a $2.45 second favourite over 1400m at Newcastle. After sitting fourth, he finished runner-up behind leader and favourite, Trunk. He looks like he will appreciate the step up to 1600m. Stablemate Kenmare Bay tracked him in that ran and was good to the line when a close third. He too will relish the extra trip. Sunshine Law looked the winner before Nosferatu got a rails run and sprinted clear at Warwick Farm last start.

Bet: King Of Thunder to win

RACE 2

Lady Devine can break through for a deserved win from the inside gate. Was third to Sovereign Express in a BM68 at Hawkesbury before a fourth to Zarrose in a BM64 at Newcastle. Flashed home from well back when second at Scone last start. Aunty Rene didn’t have a lot of luck first-up at Kembla then battled away when third to Poppin’ Champagne over 1400m. Extra trip suits. Noble Tess won her maiden over 1600m and soon jumped to stakes grade last campaign. Closed well in her Hawkesbury trial.

Bet: Lady Devine to win

RACE 3

Miss Judas showed backed up her early two-year-old trial win with a second behind Shangri La Express in the Kirkham Plate. Was at the end of her prep when seventh to that same colt in the Golden Gift last November. Resumes from a long break and should be too classy. Solar Surfer is a debutant by Cosmic Force. Jumped well to lead all the way in his Wyong trial on June 29. Thaibeefsalade raced keenly outside the leader when fifth at Kembla last start.

Bet: Miss Judas to win

RACE 4

Fire Star was a debut winner at Wyong before going to stakes company second-up. Was runner-up in three consecutive starts last campaign including one behind The Black Cloud on the Kensington. Trialling very well and the one to beat. Epic Proportions was good in his first campaign then raced well despite just one placing last time in. That was a second at Moonee Valley first-up. Trials have been good and resumes here a gelding. Alabama State was just behind the placegetters at his first four starts before winning at Hawkesbury.

Bet: Fire Star to win

RACE 5

Spitfire followed a win at Albury with a sixth to West Of Africa on the Kensington after being held up early in the straight. Boxed on for fourth behind Sailor in a BM72 at Warwick Farm. Drops in grade and gets in well with the 3kg claim. Cool Lad came between horses when a length third to the in-form Equipage at Wyong two starts back before getting well back when fifth to Extreme Freedom at Kembla. Tartana is coming off a big win at the Sapphire Coast.

Bet: Spitfire to win

RACE 6

Ace’s In Bloom is a promising filly. Kicked off her campaign with a handy maiden win over 1200m at Newcastle two weeks ago. Steps up to a BM64 here but gets in with 53.5kg after the claim. Headstock has scored three of his four career wins at this track and distance. One of those was two starts back when he stormed home to beat Selfless Act. Colours Of Autumn was a close second at Rosehill and a fast-closing third at Newcastle at two of her last three runs before a spell.

Bet: Ace’s In Bloom to win

RACE 7

Reducio is a first starter by Harry Angel from the Godolphin string. Restrained back to last and closed off strongly while under a tight hold to the line when third to Spaceballs and Emilia Jane in her Hawkesbury trial on Aug 5. Emilia Jane was a close second on debut in New Zealand in January. Sat off the rail ahead of Reducio and was good late in that trial. Dundeel debutant Spaceballs led that heat and extended nicely when given a little rein in the straight.

Bet: Reducio to win

RACE 8

Hooligan Tommy placed in three consecutive runs before stepping up to the Group 1 ATC Derby where he was last behind Riff Rocket. Resumed with a head second to Lavalier over 1300m here three weeks ago and will appreciate the step up in trip. Forrest Gump will take benefit from the experience from his debut second to Canny Queen at Wyong. Led and was ridden along on the bend but kept fighting to finish a half head away. Komodo Dragon will be better for his close third to Zousain Bolt at Wyong on debut.

Bet: Hooligan Tommy each-way
