Shane Warne given green light after scary motorbike accident

While Shane Warne admitted he was ‘a bit battered, bruised and banged-up’, the Test legend escaped any broken bones after coming off his motorcycle in a scary accident.

Shane Warne is bruised and battered – but in the clear – after the spin king’s 300kg motorbike crushed his foot in a self-inflicted wrong-un on Sunday.

Warne woke up in severe pain on Monday morning and after limping through the launch of News Corp’s KFC BBL Supercoach in Melbourne he was taken to hospital for scans.

But the 52-year-old Victorian legend told News Corp on Monday night that he hadn’t broken any bones in the fall and would only take four or five days to regain his full mobility.

It will be a light week for the banged-up bowler, who has been prescribed some light exercise and rest to recover from nasty bruising to his hip, knee, ankle and foot.

“It was another beautiful day in Melbourne and I went for a motorbike ride and I was putting the bike back in the shed, I keep it up in a storage shed, so I was off the road,” Warne said at the KFC SuperCoach launch.

“I went through the gates, came up around the hill around a corner and I just turned the handlebars a bit too sharp and they locked up and I slid along and landed on my hip and it’s a 300kg bike, which landed on my ankle.

“I’m a bit battered and bruised and banged-up. I thought I was OK, but this morning I woke up and can’t move too well.

“The ankle is not great, but hopefully it’s just bruised. The hip I think is just bruised, where I landed, but then the bike landed on my foot.”

Warne slid for more than 15m. His son, Jackson, took care of him after the accident.

The Test great, who played 145 matches in the baggy green, said he was still on his L-plates and therefore riding a less-powerful bike than a flashy Harley Davidson.

Warne remains Australia’s greatest-ever wicket-taker, with his 708 scalps towering over Glenn McGrath (563 wickets), current off-spinner Nathan Lyon (499) and Dennis Lillee (355).

The injury didn’t stop the leg-spinner rolling the arm over to fellow KFC SuperCoach ambassadors and Collingwood premiership players Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas on Monday.

Warne said he would be ready to commentate for Fox Sports when the Ashes start, with the first Test between Australia and England beginning at the Gabba on December 8.
