Test great Shane Warne has been left badly bruised, sore and with a potential broken ankle after having an accident while riding his motorbike on Sunday.

The spin king was taking his road bike for a ride in Melbourne and came off while returning it to a factory when he stores it.

Warne, 52, went down with the 300kg bike and slid for more than 15m, injuring his hip, foot and ankle. He was riding with his son, Jackson, who took care of him after the accident.

He voided serious injury and didn’t seek immediate treatment but was headed to hospital on Monday to get himself checked out after waking up in severe pain.

He was concerned with having damaged his hip and fearing his foot or ankle may have been broken.

“It was another beautiful day in Melbourne and I went for a motorbike ride and I was putting the bike back in the shed, I keep it up in a storage shed, so I was off the road,” Warne said on Monday of the accident.

“I went through the gates, came up around the hill around a corner and I just turned the handlebars a bit too sharp and they locked up and I slid along and landed on my hip and it’s a 300kg bike, which landed on my ankle.

“I’m a bit battered and bruised and banged-up. I thought I was OK, but this morning I woke up and can’t move too well.

“So I’m off to hospital after this.

“The ankle is not great, but hopefully it’s just bruised. The hip I think is just bruised, where I landed, but then the bike landed on my foot.

“Hopefully it’s not broken and I’ll be there at the first Test at the Gabba.”

The 145-Test superstar, Australia’s all-time leading Test wicket taker with 708 scalps, has been riding motorbikes for more than two years but said “I’m only on my Ls” referring to his learner’s permit.

Warne said he’d be ready to commentate for Fox Sports when the Ashes start, with the first Test between Australia and England at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 8.
