The Thunder remain hopeful the big-hitting 19-year-old could feature in the latter stages of the tournament, although he will be in a cast until Christmas.

Further scans will then determine whether he plays any part in his inaugural BBL campaign after signing a two-year deal with the Thunder.

“I fractured my wrist late in the month of October and it’s been a little bit disappointing obviously,” Davies told The Daily Telegraph.

“I’m doing a lot of rehab on it now and getting in the gym. Trying to stay on top of it.

“Hopefully I’m going to get fit to be able to play sone part in the Big Bash.

“I’m really looking forward to being around the group, even if I don’t start in the side.”

Davies has been earmarked as one of the top batting prodigies in the country after a series of dazzling performances at underage level.

He smashed a stunning 207 from 115 balls at last summer’s Under-19 National Championships for NSW Metro, a knock which included 17 sixes and 14 boundaries.

The Australian under-19 captain also impressed in a three-match youth one-day series against New Zealand in July, compiling scores of 58 (43), 41 (50) and 59 not out from 49 deliveries.

“He’s a hugely exciting prospect,” Thunder coach Shane Bond said.

“His talent with the bat, the fact that he’s a good player of spin and that he wanted to play for us all makes him a great signing.”

Davies ($42,000, BAT) features in about 16 per cent of SuperCoach BBL teams.
