Brisbane Heat all-rounder Michael Neser is set to trade cricket whites for activewear when he hits the pavement at this year’s Sunday Mail Bridge to Brisbane, all in the name of charity.

Neser will join fellow players, fans and fun runners of all ages on September 14 to raise funds for the Queensland Cricket Foundation, which supports grassroots cricket programs across the state.

“Bridge to Brisbane is an iconic event in our city’s calendar,” Neser said. “I’m excited to run alongside Heat players and fans at this year’s event for the first time.”

While it’s not an official race, Neser admits a bit of healthy competition is inevitable.

“My only goal is to not come last against the other players as whoever does will never live it down,” he said.

Post-run, the Heat’s community team will host kids’ cricket games in inflatable nets. “It’s the perfect way to finish a morning in Brisbane,” Neser said.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said money raised would help expand access to the sport across Queensland.

“The Foundation’s key targets are to improve Indigenous health and wellbeing, fund all-abilities, female and multicultural cricket programs, contribute to new or upgraded infrastructure and facilities, and support cricket experiences for disadvantaged youths,” he said.
