Move over Michael, it’s LeBron’s turn now.
The trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy dropped on Sunday and it had the internet all abuzz.
LA Lakers star LeBron James is starring in the follow-up to the 1996 original, which featured NBA royalty Michael Jordan, and jumped on social media to spread the word about his new role.

“Welcome to the Space Jam!!” he tweeted. “What in the matrix hell did I get myself into?!?!
“Y’all feeling the trailer today?? Can’t wait for y’all to see the entire movie!!”
It’s not hard to spot the similarities between James’ film and the one that came 25 years before it. The two-minute, 37-second clip teases a father-son conflict story in which the NBA star has to play basketball with a mismatched Looney Tunes squad to win back his son from captivity.
Only this time, instead of needing to defeat the Monstars, James and his Tune Squad teammates are up against the Goon Squad.
James even gets turned into a cartoon at one point himself — something that didn’t happen with Jordan.
Fans were quick to notice one cool detail in particular from the trailer, with Lola Bunny imitating Dwyane Wade’s iconic pose from a famous photo taken by photographer Morry Gash, when Wade was James’ teammate in Miami.

Sports writer Steven Loung tweeted: “New Space Jam looks like it’ll be pretty fun. The LeBron-Wade reference was gold!”
Will Manso wrote: “Space Jam dropping a Wade-LeBron classic alley oop reference is enough to get me in.”
NBA players were quick to react to the clip, as Utah Jazz star Jordan Clarkson and Bradley Beal of Washington both responded with three fire emojis.
For The Win’s Mike D. Sykes II said the sneak peek was “pretty great”.
“This trailer is WILD,” he wrote. “This trailer was so good. There were so many random characters in this outside of the Looney Tunes. The Iron Giant, the Flinstones, Scooby Doo.
“This movie is going to be so dope.”
The internet also had jokes about James building a super team, after the trailer showed him coming up with a roster capable of beating the Goon Squad.
Typical LeBron... Trying to build a super-team in Space Jam 2. MJ only needed Bill Murray, Newman, Bugs Bunny and co.

Jordan was joined on screen in 1996 by fellow NBA stars including Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing. There weren’t any other players shown alongside James in the trailer, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any guest appearances this time around.
The trailer is accompanied by the original Space Jam theme song and reveals the film will be released in mid-July.
