AIC First XIII Rugby League 2022: Players to Watch

AIC First XIII rugby league Players to Watch ahead of round 1 this Saturday. SEE THE LEAGUE MAGICIANS gearing up for the competition’s revival after a three year hiatus.

Maroons conquer Blues to win State of Origin thriller

The AIC First XIII rugby league season will launch on Saturday, in what is expected to be the first uninterrupted season in three years.

It’s a competition that was welcomed with open arms in 2019, showcasing some of the hidden rugby league rookies who aren’t as lethal in the union competition occurring the term prior.

Expect a repeated surge in the competition ranks by Eddies’ and a dominant showing by Iona College as we witness some league stars in their natural habitat.

So who are the Players to Watch in season 2022?

Jeremy Trappett

Wynnum-Manly junior Jeremy Trappett is one of the more exciting league talents that will star in this year’s competition.

He is coming off some hot form, having played for the Queensland Under 18s in the ASSRL Schoolboy National Championships earlier this month.

Trappett, fullback in the AIC First XV Team of the Season, didn’t look out of place at the Championships, playing a number of backline positions and finding ways to threaten the defence

Ayden and Sully Hoad

Iona twins Ayden and Sully proved how damaging they can be with ball in hand during the AIC First XV season, and will be even more prominent playing their favoured sport of rugby league.

With quick play-the-balls, great offloading ability and brute strength, the pair of them will be fun to watch.

Will Lane

Another exciting rugby league prospect who will gel well with Iona’s showstopping backline is Will Lane.

Iona head of sport Keith Harron said he is loaded with potential.

Padua College

Mitch Rogers

From the sidelines, he is a joy to watch. Rogers, a hooker signed with the Canterbury Bulldogs, was named starting hooker in the 42nd Confraternity Carnival’s Honorary Representative Team last month.

If he brings half of that form, then he will be an absolute handful.

Mitch Ross

Ross is a middle/edge forward with a strong build. He is excellent with his aggressive second phase play, and is an aggressive defender.

Villanova College

Cam Bukowski

Bukowski will be playing in the halves and is a natural leader. He will be leading Villa as captain.

What does he do well? He’s great at attacking the line and is the brains of the operation out on the field.

Larry Clark

Clark will be Villanova’s five-eighth. There’s not much of him but he’s tough and a fantastic decision maker in attack. He showed in the rugby union season his strength on defence as well.

Jackson Connor

Connor will most likely play lock or in the centres. He is in Year 10 and is a very experienced league player.

The young-gun is a great attacker and has some long limbs which makes him hard to defend against

James Sullivan

Villanova lock James Sullivan is an outstanding defender and a hard runner.

Dante Febo

Front rower Dante Febo was a Met East rugby union player. He’s a strong runner, bulldozing through the line hard and straight

Marist College Ashgrove

Tasman Barry

Barry is another league talent who’s knowledge of the game will help Ashgrove immensely throughout the season.

He will be one of his team’s biggest metre-eaters as he runs the ball strongly up the middle.

Whether it’s returning the ball from the back or taking hit ups, the year 12 will use his big frame and ball-carrying aggression to give the Ashgrove the go-forward they need.

Jack Billing

Billing’s aggression and physicality will be invaluable for Ashgrove’s 2022 campaign.

In every team you need that workhorse who is going to make plenty of tackles and show up when it matters.

Billing, with his great game sense and offload, will do just this.

St Edmund’s College

Larry Siala

Siala is one of the reasons Eddies’ can back up their form from last term’s rugby union success.

Siala will be rampaging up the middle every game and it takes multiple defenders to bring him down.

Siala plays club rugby league for the Norths Tigers and the Ipswich Jets. Given his ability to adapt to the game of union, he’s going to be even more destructive where he feels most comfortable—on the league field.

Zane Kaatz

Kaatz played Mal Meninga Cup for the Ipswich Jets earlier in the year with teammates Larry Siala and Tyler Cuthbert-Hough.

Kaatz’ kicking game will be first class for Eddies’. With his rugby league experience, he’s another important piece of the puzzle for the Ipswich boys shot at the premiership glory.

Talon Biddle

Biddle is another Ipswich Jet representative, who comes into round one having warmed up with Brothers Ipswich as five-eighth. Indeed Biddle is due for a big season.

He will connect with Kaatz. They’ll be an exciting combination.

Logan Costello and Tyler Cuthbert-Hough

This Eddies’ First XIII team will be bolstered by more rugby league young-guns. These two will help steer the ship and lead by example.

St Laurence’s College

Mikael Ibrahim

Ibrahim has made a name for himself around AIC, starring at centre for back-to-back First XV premiership winners St Laurence’s College.

He is a rugby league player, so you can imagine how lethal he will be in Black and Gold this season.

If Lauries’ are to have even more success, Ibrahim will be at the forefront.

St Patrick’s College

St Patrick's College rugby league Player to Watch: James Boland.

James Boland

Year 11 James Boland will be one of St Pats’ best this season.

Whether it’s on the wing or in the centres, Boland can do damage.

His mentality and encouragement of his somewhat underdog team is going to come up huge on top of what he already offers on the offensive side of the ball.
