A host of Geelong Falcons prospects have made strong starts to the season — headlined by a potential top-10 pick. See the local talents pressing their draft claims.

Replay: Brisbane Lions v Geelong Falcons - 2025 AFL Coates League Round 4 (Boys)

The Geelong Falcons have started with just one win from their first three games, but a host of talents from the region have been impressing.

See how they have fared in the first month.

Josh Lindsay

Newtown & Chilwell/Geelong Grammar

2025 CTL stats ave: 26.0 disposals, 20.5 kicks, 16.0 uncontested possessions, 4.5 tackles, 129 SuperCoach points (2 games)

Lindsay’s laser left-boot has been on show, with his strong start to the season putting him in top-10 calculations. In blustery conditions at Whitten Oval, Lindsay hit targets with ease out of defence and finished with 25 disposals and another best on ground medal – just as he did in the U17 Futures game last September. With the Falcons, Geelong Grammar and the AFL Academy, Lindsay has been able to transition through progams with ease. Looks to already have the maturity and ability of an AFL player – it’s just a matter of where he is picked.

Ben Rongdit

Colac/Geelong Grammar

2025 CTL stats ave: 11.0 disposals, 7.0 intercepts, 3.5 tackles, 66 SuperCoach points

A Geelong Next Generation Academy talent, Rongdit has shown glimpses of his eye-catching athleticism, vertical leap and tenacity that has seen him highly touted, but consistency will be the key for the rest of his draft year. The South Sudanese prospect had limited influence in the AFL Academy games, but his intercepting was a highlight in round two of the Coates Talent League, where he had 10 intercepts and 12 contested possessions against the Rebels. Like Lindsay, Rongdit may not be seen much for the Falcons for the remainder of the season as he features for Geelong Grammar and likely Vic Country.

Jesse Mellor

Geelong West

2025 stats ave: 19.0 disposals, 5.5 tackles, 1.3 score assists, 0.8 goals, 112 SuperCoach points (4 games)

Another Cats NGA prospect, Mellor has started the season with a bang in a midfield-forward role. His combination of ball-winning, forward-half impact and defensive intent has been impressive, amassing 21 disposals, 12 contested possessions, eight tackles, eight score involvements, two goals and 155 SuperCoach points in the Falcons’ win over the Murray Bushrangers in round three.

Hugo Mikunda

Bell Park/Kardinia International College

2025 stats ave: 11 disposals, 4 intercepts, 4 marks 71 SuperCoach points (1 game)

One of the Falcons’ best bottom-age performers last season, Mikunda made his return from injury over the weekend against the Lions Academy, where he had 11 touches. The forward-midfielder spent the summer with the Vic Country squad and will be eyeing a spot in the Vic Country side once he builds fitness and form.

Oliver Johnston

Newtown & Chilwell/Geelong College

2025 stats ave: 13.7 disposals, 8.4 contested possessions, 5.7 hit-outs, 5.0 score involvements, 3.7 clearances, 59 SuperCoach points (3 games)

Johnston kicked six goals in his first two Falcons games last year as a key forward, but he has given more exposure in the ruck this season and has relished time up the ground. The 192cm prospect’s follow up work has stood out, highlighted by his 22 disposals, 14 contested possessions, eight clearance, six hit-outs to advantage and 136 SuperCoach points against the GWV Rebels in round two. His start to the season earnt him a spot in the Victorian U18 trials.

Charlie Lawless

Anglesea/Geelong College

2025 stats ave: 8.7 disposals, 5.0 intercepts, 2.7 marks, 1.0 intercept marks, 59 SuperCoach points (3 games)

The 194cm key defender has been given the tough assignment of mid-season draft hopeful Floyd Burmeister twice – once in a practice game and again in round two – and equipped himself well. Lawless has returned to Geelong College for the time being but was another picked to trial for Vic Country. A late developer, Lawless’ best game for the season came against Murray in round three where he had 13 touches and eight intercepts – two of those marks.

Rilley Aquilina

St Joseph’s/Saint Ignatius College

2025 stats ave: 15.7 disposals, 8.7 contested possessions 5.7 tackles, 91 SuperCoach points (3 games)

Aquilina has been a surprise packet to start the season, going from local footy to trialling for Vic Country in a matter of months – a sign of his rapid development. The forward-midfielder has electric speeds and applies manic pressure. Aquilina received more midfield time against the Lions Academy and finished with 20 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances and 116 SuperCoach points.

Kobe George

Bell Park/Geelong VFL

2025 VFL stats ave: 11.3 disposals, 4.0 intercepts, 3.3 marks, 47 SuperCoach points

The Falcons had two 19-year-old prospects taken last year in Brisbane’s Will McLachlan (mid-season) and Geelong’s Joe Pike (rookie draft), and George shapes as a mid-season chance after a pre-season with Geelong VFL. George’s promising start for the Cats as their 23rd man and the Falcons, where he had 20 disposals and eight intercepts in round three, earnt him a call-up to the Young Guns showcase. The 188cm defender was solid off halfback for the Young Guns in their loss to Vic Metro over the weekend.

Jett Elek

Lara/Lara College

2025 stats ave: 11.5 disposals, 4.3 hit-outs, 3.0 marks, 59 SuperCoach points (3 games)

Elek may have been lost to the system if Lara hadn’t invited the Falcons down to their training to take a look at him, with the ruck-forward joining the Falcons program for the back-half of last season. At 201cm, Elek covers the ground well and he has had some promising moments. Elek had 13 touches, seven score involvements, two contested marks and two goals against the Lions Academy in his best performance of the season to date.

Noah Williams

St Joseph’s/Geelong Grammar

2025 stats ave: 13.0 disposals, 4.8 tackles, 1.0 , 2.7 marks, 1.0 intercept marks, 59 SuperCoach points (3 games)

Williams was the most impressive Falcon at the Vic Country trials, which says a bit considering he is a bottom-ager. He had 17 disposals at 88 per cent efficiency, five tackles and two score involvements in that match, which continued his encouraging form from the Coates Talent League. The midfielder-forward’s pressure has been notable, laying seven tackles to go with 11 touches and two goals in round four.

Jack Pickett

Torquay/Geelong Grammar

2025 stats ave: 9.0 disposals, 4.0 marks (2.0 contested), 2.5 goals, 67 SuperCoach points

Pickett began his bottom-age campaign with five goals and two contested marks in his first two games before he picked up an ankle injury. The Torquay product will split his time between Geelong Grammar and the Falcons this season and if he continues this form when he returns, it wouldn’t surprise to see him get a spot in the Vic Country squad.

Fletcher Pulleine

St Joseph’s/St Joseph’s College

2025 stats ave: 11.5 disposals, 6.5 intercepts, 2.0 intercept marks, 65 SuperCoach points

Pulleine is another Falcons bottom-ager who has caught the eye, which earnt him a Vic Country trial. The 189cm defender had 12 touches in that trial and has averaged 6.5 intercepts per game in the Coates Talent League. His best game came against Murray, where he collected 16 disposals, 10 intercepts and six marks (three of those intercept marks).

Jagger Mooney

Newtown & Chilwell/St Joseph’s College

2025 stats ave: 7.3 disposals, 4.0 spoils, 3.5 intercepts, 50 SuperCoach points

The son of Geelong great Cameron Mooney has started his draft year as a lockdown key defender and has been solid. The potential Cats father-son prospect put on nine spoils in round one.
