AFLW Round 6 teams: Pies name recruits, Bulldogs resist rushing Katie Brennan back

Collingwood will finally unveil two of its biggest-name recruits, with former Hockeyroo Georgie Parker and current Magpies netballer Ash Brazill to debut against Brisbane on Saturday.

The match means little to the Magpies beyond pride, but they can play a significant hand in shaping the grand finalists if they upset the second placed Lions.

A win would pave the way for third-placed Melbourne, who face Carlton at Ikon Park on Sunday.

The match will be Parker’s eighth game of football at any level after a successful 108-game national hockey career, while Brazill was an accomplished junior and has been forced to wait for an AFLW berth after suffering a hamstring injury on the eve of the season.

The Pies also named former junior long jump star Kristy Stratton, sister of Australian long jump champion Brooke Stratton, who has battled injury in her pre- AFLW career including a knee reconstruction in 2015.

The Lions will be without intercept defender Nicole Hildebrand.

The Bulldogs baulked at recalling skipper Katie Brennan (ankle), but Deanna Berry gets a chance to cement her spot in the side ahead of a potential Grand Final berth when the Dogs play the Giants in Canberra on Saturday night. The improving Giants are unchanged.

Melbourne has lost quality defender Bianca Jakobsson (quad) for its clash against the Blues, with Meg Downie and Laura Duryea named as potential replacements on an extended bench.

It’s hoped Jakobsson will return for the Demons’ final round game against the Bulldogs.

The Blues have named young rookie Tiahna Cochrane for her first game while Jess Hosking returns. Lauren Arnell won’t play because of an undefined injury.
