SOMETIMES they think they are being harassed by phone canvassers, or others reckon their mates are stitching them up, but when they realise it is true their reactions are priceless.
Making phone calls to winners was one of the things RSL Queensland’s Luke Traini liked best about his role as General Manager of Lotteries.
With a promotion now to CEO, unfortunately it is something Mr Traini won’t be doing for much longer.
The hunt is on now for a new general manger which Mr Traini said would take on the phone call responsibility once appointed.
During his ten years in the general manager role Mr Traini said he had probably give away 150 individual properties.
“One (phone call) was to an older lady who just mistook me for a telemarketer and hung up on more four times,’’ he said.
By the fifth phone call he managed to tell her she had won, “and then she was lovely’’, Mr Traini said.
Only on one occasion did they struggle to find the winner, they phoned, sent letters and were about to hire a private investigator to track them down, when they returned from a long holiday to the good news.
The next property to be given away will be a $1.5 million home on the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
The five-bedroom house at Yandina has views towards the Conondale National Park and beyond.
It is the largest RSL Art Union property to be offered on the Sunshine Coast.
Tickets are on sale until July 21 and will drawn on July 29.
