POLICE stations on Brisbane’s southside are continuing to report increases in crime in line with continued easing of COVID restrictions, with one reporting 13 burglaries in the past week, including eight committed in the middle of a single day, allegedly by four young offenders.

Upper Mount Gravatt Police Station OIC Snr Sgt Andrew Dupere said his officers had a “very busy week with multiple entry to dwellings where offenders found unlocked doors”.

It commenced last Monday, when four young offenders, two males and two females, allegedly committed eight burglaries during the middle of the day. Streets targeted were:

  • Arafura St, Upper Mount Gravatt.
  • Kavanagh St, Wishart.
  • Apple Blossom Pl, Eight Mile Plains.
  • Pinnacle Pl, Eight Mile Plains.
  • Skyline Ct, Eight Mile Plains. A grey 2013 Fiat Freemont was stolen.
  • Attempted burglary, Azzure St, Eight Mile Plains.
  • Wivenhoe Pl, Runcorn. An Audi was stolen.
  • Beres Cres, Kuraby.

Snr Sgt Andrew Dupere said a 17-year-old male has been charged for the string of burglaries.

Other burglaries UMG police responded to last week included:

  • Wednesday afternoon, a caravan was burgled at Sheldon Caravan Park, Holmead Rd, Eight Mile Plains.
  • Wednesday afternoon, a house was burgled at Resurge St, Rochedale.
  • Friday evening, a house was burgled at Skyview Ave, Rochedale.
  • Friday evening, a house was burgled at Parolin Pde, Rochedale. A black 2011 Audi A1 hatchback was stolen.
  • Saturday very early morning, a house was burgled at Cedar Cl, Mackenzie.

“We are still seeing cars left unlocked with garage remotes being used to gain entry. Internal doors from garages have no dead lock fitted or if they do they’re not in use,” Snr Sgt Dupere said.

“We would like to remind people not to leave keys and valuables in plain sight and if you have a car, please put it in your garage if you can.

“Remember if you make it harder for these offenders to get in they will go elsewhere.”

Calamvale Police Station in Brisbane’s outer south has also seen a rise in this type of crime.

“Since the beginning of May, Calamvale police have received an increase in the number of reports of unlawful entry to motor vehicles in the Stretton and Parkinson areas,” the station said in a statement yesterday.

“These offences include the stealing of motor vehicles following home burglary offences or targeting parked vehicles where offenders are trying doors and rifling through consoles and glove compartments to obtain money and other valuables.

“Calamvale Police are urging members of the community to secure their homes and vehicles even if they are at home.”
