Tiarne McKinnon: Beaudesert woman arrested on drug charges

A young bartender at a popular pub south of Brisbane has been charged with dealing meth on nine occasions and assaulting a police officer.

A 23-year-old Scenic Rim bartender has been charged with supplying methylamphetamine (ice) on nine occasions and assaulting a police officer.

Beaudesert woman Tiarne Micha McKinnon, who a court heard is an employee of the Beaudesert Hotel, was charged on Friday with 16 offences.

She will spend at least another night in custody after Beenleigh Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll refused her bail on Monday, at which point she wailed and clutched at her hair in the glass dock.

In addition to the supply and assault charges, Ms McKinnon is charged with obstructing police, possessing drug utensils, possessing suspected stolen property (a bank card, vehicle key and Dan Murphy’s loyalty card), possessing cash suspected to be the proceeds of a drug offence, and possessing a mobile phone suspected to have been used in the commission of a drug offence.

There is no suggestion any offences are connected to her employment at the hotel, which had been sporadic in recent months due to the COVID-19 shutdown, according to defence law Lex Weddell.

Police claim Ms McKinnon supplied ice on June 22 – 24 and 27 – 29, as well as on July 1 – 2 and 5.

The court heard Ms McKinnon was already on bail in the District Court on charges which included kidnapping and deprivation of liberty, alleged to have occurred on June 30 last year.

However, Mr Weddell told the court there is a chance these charges will be dropped, a matter which will be probed at greater depth on Tuesday in Beaudesert Magistrates Court, as Ms McKinnon has further unrelated charges being mentioned there.

There may be a further application for bail on Tuesday.

Beaudesert Hotel told the Courier Mail the 23-year-old Ms McKinnon had not worked at the hotel in “eight or nine years”.
