A callous sneak thief has stolen an urn containing the ashes of a 72-year-old man’s daughter while he was asleep in his Brisbane home.
The heartless offender also made off with World War II medals belonging to the father of the elderly Sherwood resident.
Police said the robbery occurred on May 19 at the retiree’s Magazine St home.
They ransacked a bedroom while he slept, also stealing his handbag and some jewellery.
The urn, a rosewood polished box about 30cm long and 20cm wide, contained the ashes of the man’s daughter, who tragically died aged only 17.
The war medals, similar to those pictured, were awarded the 72-year-old’s late father, A.N. Palmer, who served in the 2/7th Battalion.
He received the medals for services in the Middle East and New Guinea during World War II.
The victims was devastated by the loss and police have appealed to the conscience of the thieves, pleading with them to return the urn and medals.
