A young Ipswich drug addict has been sentenced in the Supreme Court after a search warrant uncovered a huge illegal trove.

A search warrant at a young Ipswich drug addict’s residence uncovered $3000 worth of cannabis, $6600 worth of party drug MDMA and $8115 cash, among other suspect items, a court has heard.

Goodna man Scott James Gordon, 22, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday to eight drug offences including possessing a Schedule 2 dangerous drug (cannabis), possessing a Schedule 3 quantity of MDMA, two counts of supplying a Schedule 2 dangerous drug (cannabis), possessing drug utensils, the proceeds of a drug crime (cash), and a pair of knuckledusters.

The court heard the search warrant was executed on February 27 last year.

484g of cannabis – more than one pound – was discovered in tubs in Gordon’s bedroom, while inside a metal safe police discovered 25.5g of MDMA powder, 18.473g of which was pure.

In addition to the drugs, cash and knuckledusters, police discovered a quantity of empty capsules, bongs and smoking pipes, digital scales, scissors and grinders.

Analysis of his mobile phone revealed Gordon had supplied cannabis on each of the two days prior to the search warrant.

The court heard this is the fourth time Gordon has been before a court, with his current offending an “escalation” of drug-related offending on his criminal history.

While it was accepted some of the cannabis was for Gordon’s personal use, the MDMA was for a purely “commercial purpose”.

Defence counsel Stephen Kissick characterised his client’s sale of MDMA as “misguided altruism” as he was trying to “help friends” get the drug.

He said his client had had a “lifelong” addiction to cannabis since his early teens but had recently turned his life around, securing a job at Heathwood outfit Denco, which supplies butcher products, and getting a driver’s licence.

Gordon was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with immediate court-ordered parole.
