Orion Springfield Central is set for a massive shake up with several new stores ready to bolster the retail hub following a Covid-affected exodus.
While a number of stores have closed in recent months, the shopping centre has confirmed a wave of local businesses and international retailers is coming.
Stores that have recently opened include women’s clothing outlets Her Wardrobe and Liberty Streetwear Co, and gift shop Purple Fig Tree.
Liberty Streetwear owner Kimberly Holland said she was “super excited’’ to have opened, at a space between Dotti and Forever New.
Thai restaurant Nori will open next month, while women’s clothing store Dangerfield is planning for a July opening.
Other stores opening soon include Aussie shoe brand Platypus Shoes and discount shop Hot Bargain, which will move into the site vacated by The Reject Shop.
Orion asset manager Elisabeth Rung said a lot of planning had been happening behind the scenes.
“Some of these discussions have been in the works for many months, so it’s great to be able to announce these new stores and see them open their doors over the coming weeks,” she said.
The Reject Shop announced earlier this week that it would be shutting its doors for good after a 15-year stint in the centre.
Company secretary Michael Freier cited landlord issues as the reason.
Ms Rung confirmed it had been difficult for some businesses to stay open during and after the pandemic.
“Some of the store closures are due to natural lease expiry, however unfortunately a couple of businesses really struggled during Covid and had to close their doors,” she said.
“While the last two years have been challenging industry-wide, we are thrilled to have our community back and see our centre thriving again.”
“We are focused on being a centre that meets the needs of our customers, to provide a trusted destination of convenience while also offering an exciting mix of retailers, alongside the events and activations throughout the year.
“It’s also important that we support our retail partners by ensuring they feel like they are a part of the right retail mix for their own business.”
