Under-17 girls in tribute to teammate’s deceased father

The Redcliffe under-17 girls Australian football community rallied in support of a teammate whose father passed away earlier this month. Story here.

The SEQ AFL under-17 girls from the Redcliffe Tigers paid tribute to the recently deceased father of a teammate.

The squad wore blue and white armbands in memory of Danny Riddle, whose daughter Lucy plays for the Redcliffe side.

Fittingly Lucy Riddle led the Tigers on against Sherwood in a grading match won by the Magpies.

Danny Riddle’s favourite colours were blue and white.

It was an emotional start to the season for the girls from the Peninsula.

A friend of the family, Alarna Bell, has also organised a gofund.me page dubbed: Donate to supporting Danny Riddle: Fighting CJD and Easing the Burden.

Meawnhile, across the Hornibrook Highway bridge at neighbouring Sandgate, the Hawks’ celebrated the debut of three players - Reegan Thorne, Olivia Larsen and Rori Ayton - in its grading game.

The club also unveiled its two leaders, with Georgia Watterson and captain and Lexi Watson the vice-captain.

The Hawks played the Wynnum Vikings who kicked three goals in the second quarter in the rain.

“We stuck to our game plan and kicked a few in the last quarter to finish the match on a winning note,’’ said Sandgate coach Shane Watterson.

Special mentions to the first game players who battled away, while Leila Travers and Ella Butler were also welcomed back to the club with open arms. They worked hard in the rucks.
