After a series of highlight reel performances by players across all round 2 matches of First XI cricket, we’ve settled on this high class Team of the Week.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
1. Ryan Hines (Ipswich Grammar School)
A Stanthorpe boy whose recent career includes playing at Brothers Ipswich, Hines scored 102 from 110 balls in a stunning performance. A right handed batsman, Hines hit the ball hard and played all around the wicket. His innings was a mix of power and patience.
Hines’ performance was even more meritorious when you consider the BSHS bowlers had dismissed Nudgee for just 86 in round 1.
2. Cameron Sinfield (The Southport School)
Sinfield just had to be included for his blazing 75 not out from 43 balls against TGS. Although the match was in hand before he batted due to TSS’ bowling performance, Sinfield celebrated his team’s strong position by hitting more sixes (seven) than fours (six). It was a breath-taking assault.
3. Zac Robinson (BBC)
In a low scoring match, Robinson’s 54 was gold to the BBC dugout. He put aside chaotic scenes early when the Terrace bowlers claimed four wickets in the first hour, working hard before finding a willing partner in D’Arcy Satharasinghe (55).

4. Eli Brain (BGS)
Brain was the best batsmen in the game despite his team’s loss to Churchie. The Queensland representative scored 58 from 77 balls in a collapsing innings, and then bowled tightly to put Churchie under pressure. He is one of the top two or three talents in the competition.

5. D’Arcy Satharasinghe (BBC)
Satharasinghe top scored with a run-a-ball 55 in a low scoring game, took wickets with his off-spin, claimed a catch and generated a run out. In an outstanding team performance, the ace footballer was simply the best player on the field.
Satharasinghe’s breezy 55 went against the trend of the match and shifted momentum away from the Terrace bowlers and fielders.
6. Tighe Morris (Churchie)
Morris took 2-22 and scored 40 from 65 balls to ensure Churchie came ashore winners against BGS. His first spell was top- shelf slow bowling, claiming both BGS openers which immediately put his side onto the front foot. He had plenty of help later in the innings, but his early overs were what sparked Churchie.
7. Alex Walduck (Churchie)
Walduck snares the gloveman’s role this week after his neat and tidy performance behind the stumps. He also scored 24 opening up for Churchie, not a bad effort given representative bowlers Harry Langdon and Eli Brain were coming hard at him. Walduck snared a catch, a stumping and gloved a run out.
8. Dushyant Thaman (TSS)
The Thaman-Eckersley bowling combination was crucial to TSS retaining control of the match against TGS. After starring in round one with the bat, Thaman’s left arm spin eroded the Toowoomba Grammar batting, capturing 2-25 from 10 overs.
9. Jackson McDonald (Terrace)
A Year 10 student, McDonald hit the jackpot when he dismissed BBC’s two Queensland U17 representatives, Blake Armstrong and Ryan Atley, both for ducks. He also dismissed BBC’s Zac Robinson for 54 and snaring those quality batsmen will give the youngster additional confidence entering round 3 against premiers The Southport School.
10. Riley Eckersley (TSS)
Year 12 student Eckersley claimed three of TGS’s top six batsmen in what was a compelling performance at the bowling crease. He built pressure, bowling two maidens, and hustled through his right arm off spin quickly so the TGS had no respite.
11. Oscar Dioth (IGS)
The Ipswich Grammar fast bowler locked his sights on the BSHS top order and unleashed full pitched deliveries which bowled one batsman and trapped another infront at the start of the BSHS innings. BSHS never recovered from the Wide Bay product’s withering start.
12. Gurutva Singh (IGS)
BSHS’s top scorer Charles Hinze (33) was proving a pain in the backside as he counterattacked his way to 33, but Singh (2-19, eight overs) bowled him and also Patel which was a reward for his tight line and length.
13th man: Ashton Clark (BBC)
It was another high class performance by the young leg spinner whose control for a wrist spinner rarely ceases to amaze. His eight overs included two maidens on his way to taking 2-18.
Special mentions
Queensland U17 ace Blake Armstrong (BBC) gets a mention, not for his batting, but his bowling (2-17) which included two top order rivals.
Armstrong’s Queensland teammate, Theodore Bacalakis (Terrace), deserves a special mention for his gallant 43 in a collapsing innings.
Angus Storen (Churchie) claimed 3-27, top and tailing the innings with wickets.
George Hales (Terrace) continued to find wickets with his right arm swing, taking 3-37.
Thomas Barnes (TSS). With three wickets in nine balls, Barnes just has to get a mention, doesn’t he?
Colby Rudd (IGS) is an extremely valuable cricketer. Again he batted well to score 35, but he also contributed with the ball to snare 1-6 (four overs).
Ellis McCarthy (TSS). The TSS slow bowlers rightly get a lot of praise, but fast bowler McCarthy is following in the footsteps of old boy Zac McDermott by bowling fast and accurately at the start of an innings.
