The club’s entry into the NRL will light a bonfire of ambition beneath a group of aspiring school students dreaming of representing their home region on the league’s biggest stage.

You don’t get more Redcliffe than Redcliffe SHS, who have current Queensland State of Origin captain Daly Cherry-Evans, Origin ironman Petero Civoniceva and NRL hardman Josh McGuire as old boys.

Now a new generation of young league player is sweeping through the school with hopes and aspirations that maybe they can be a Redcliffe Dolphins NRL footballer.

“Having our local club included in the NRL would be great, and having an extra opportunity on the end of the already existing pathway would be massive for guys like us coming through hoping to pursue footy,’’ said Redcliffe SHS student and Dolphins junior Jak Goulding.

Redcliffe SHS captain, prop Matthew Bennett, said playing NRL via the Dolphins would be “unreal’’.

“For myself and my mates, this would bring big opportunities and growth in rugby league.

“Having a local NRL team, this will definitely motivate more kids to play league or stay playing in the district.

“I mean you watch the NRL on TV and you dream of being a part of it.

“The Dolphins entering the comp will do just that. It will inspire more kids to pursue their passion in rugby league.’’

And Goulding said having the NRL on tap at their local club would also slow the flow of junior talent to rival NRL clubs.

“I think you’ll find having the NRL team added on top of the already established pathways would help keep more local boys at the club instead of going to other clubs as they get older.

“It’s certainly a pathway everyone would love to be a part of,’’ Goulding said.
