One of Queensland sport’s finest winning streaks continued today when St Peters Lutheran College claimed its seventh successive AIC swimming championship.

On a day when records tumbled left, right and centre, St Peters held off a fierce challenge to win.

Entering the meet St Peters had dominated both QGSSSA and AIC swimming, with the St Peters girls’ last week winning their 11th straight QGSSSA title.

And now the boys have seven titles in succession.

Marist, the old school of arguably Australia’s most successful ever Dolphins swim coach Michael Bohl, almost crashed Saints party after building a challenge for several years.

It was a fine effort by the Ashgrove swim team coached by James Boyce, with Eoin Paznikov joined by Spencer Mahoney and Matthew O’Keefe as team captains.

The final placings: St Peters 661.50, Marist 621.75, Villanova 440, Iona 427.50, St Laurence’s 386, Padua 278.50, Ambrose Treacy 272.50, St Patrick’s 224, St Edmund’s 155.50.

In addition, Villanova College won the Year 6 championship and Iona College the Year 5 premiership.

Indeed Villanova had a fantastic meet, with great relay efforts and many good individual returns, including five wins from junior Ashton Lewis.

It was a sensational opening with three AIC records tumbling in the first seven events as schools shared honours across the medley relays, and in all 13 records fell.

Iona College’s Hugo Wheeler claimed three of those records.
