St Joseph’s Nudgee College to play traditional rivals Gregory Terrace in rugby season opener

The GPS schoolboy rugby season is scheduled to start with a bang after facing a long delay due to the COVID-19 restrictions, with two bitter rivals due to go head to head in a blockbuster opener.

The GPS schoolboy rugby season will start with a bang, with traditional rivals St Joseph’s Nudgee College playing St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace on August 8 at Tennyson.

The season opener blockbuster will be preceded by three trial matches between the nine GPS schools which are scheduled for July 18, 25 and August 1.

The delayed start to the season was caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

The Nudgee-Terrace history is the biggest rivalry in Queensland schoolboy rugby, with its origins stretching back to 1891 when Nudgee opened.

Prior to that there was only one St Joseph’s College in Brisbane - the one the Christian Brothers founded at Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

As Terrace grew, the college boarding school was moved to Nudgee where it was initially administered from the Spring Hill office.
