QAFL Colts most improved players of 2025

As the QAFL colts competition swings toward the finals, the most improved players in the competition can be revealed.

THE QAFL colts semi-finals have been confirmed, with the top eight set for battle over the next month to see who is crowned premiers.

The most significant result from last Saturday’s final round was a ripper between Sherwood and Morningside, a finals’ dress rehearsal won 8-6-54 to 6-7-43 by the Magpies.

THE COMPETITION’S BEST FEND, DON’T ARGUE

Labrador confirmed his ptop 8 place with a big win over Broadbeach, capping a fantastic build-up by the Tigers which started several years ago. It is a big milestone for the club to have a finals’ colts outfit.

As a result, this weekend Sherwood play Morningside and Aspley take on Noosa.

Then, Wilston Grange will play Labrador, with Coorparoo taking on PBC.

Before teams do battle in the finals, here’s a look back at the most improved players of season 2025 from your club.

Xavier Veivers-Brown (Morningside)

The Panthers ace has gone from a reliable player to one of the team’s bests, and was even being an emergency for seniors late in the season.

The rookie is a winner.

Last year he was splitting his time last year between Colts, U17s and school soccer playing Firsts for title winning Churchie as striker, then won a premiership in footy with Morningside.

Bryson Anderson (Maroochydore)

After playing in the Roos under-17s two’s grand final in 2024, Anderson has shown remarkable improvement over the year. The rising centre half back has stepped up significantly and taken on a crucial role for his side.

Charlie Gwynne (Broadbeach)

A dependable ruckman who has battled hard all year, Gwynne has consistently given the midfielders first use in the midfield and around the ground.

Rhett Harrison (Broadbeach)

The reliable backman , Harrison’s game knowledge and understanding has increased this year. His development allowed him to move into the midfield throughout the second half of the season and also made appearances in the reserves. Harrison’s work ethic and dedication is second to none.

Nate Payze (Noosa)

Despite still being eligible for the under-15s, Payze has made a major impact since joining the side in the last two months of the competition. He has consistently held his own and has been among the best players in the last couple of rounds.

Brae Agrams (Labrador)

The Suns Academy ruckman started the season down back, but through injuries was forced to move into the ruck where he has thrived. He is strong in the contest and makes countless hit-outs to advantage.

Cooper Glass (Labrador)

Glass has grown in confidence throughout the year playing on the wing. He has provided plenty of run and speed out wide, while not being afraid to throw his body around the contest.

Archie Watts (Morningside)

After he missed finals selection last year, Watts put in a massive pre-season and is now firmly in the best 22. Lions Academy.

He also had a grand school season, playing QLD U17 earlier in August. “He has come a long way and, works really hard, ‘’ said Morningside coach Justin Lawrence.

Finn Booker (Morningside)

Morningside’s Booker improved so much, he elevated himself from a fringe player last year to being a staple in the 2025 team. He even won selection in the reserves. “A second-year player at the club, he is a terrific runner and a great guy to have around the club too,’’ said coach Justin Lawrence.

Rhys Doman (Coorparoo)

A defender or midfield player, Doman intercept work across the back line has become elite. “His contested marking is also unrivalled among our group,’’ according to coach Sam Wiltshire.

In recent weeks he has transitioned into the midfield where his defence attributes have enabled him to dominate stoppages and impact the game in the Kings attacking half.

Carter Pemberton (Coorparoo)

Another defender or wingman, Carter has blossomed this season once given the opportunity. His lockdown defensive work has been excellent, while he has elite kicking skills.

Since moving up onto the wing, his team first mentality enables strong structure and support to both ends of the field, while he is able to drive us forward with his long kicking ability.

Joseph Schmalkuchen (Sherwood)

“When it comes to the most improved, Sherwood’s performance to date has improved in no small way due to the improvement of some of its much-admired young men - Joseph Schmalkuchen,’’ explained Magpies coach Damien Haber.

“A born and bred rugby man, he brings a raw talent capable of anything.

Joseph started his footy journey only two years ago as a raw athlete, but continues to find a way to get better and learn the game.

“He is constantly probing ways to get better and very coachable. It is a real pleasure to have Joe in the group and his potential is limitless.

Isaac Barac (Sherwood)

Barac is an excitement machine who returned this season after being out of footy for the last couple of years.

“It didn’t take long to show what he’s capable of, with top end speed and manic tackle pressure, he continues to grow in confidence and help the team improve,’’ said his coach Damien Haber.

“An otherwise quietly spoken young man, when it comes to game day, this competitor strikes fear in the opposition and continues to improve.’’

Brock O’ Sullivan (Aspley)

Brock has been a player who has been in and out of the side, but has really grown over the past two months with his ability to catch in packs or on the hit up.

“He has the ability to stay connected in play by moving up then working back towards the goal,’’ said Aspley coach Brett Atkins.

“He has worked extremely hard over the pre-season on his fitness and during the season. Brock has just turned 17 so he has plenty of upside to come.’’

Connor Christofidis:(Mt Gravatt)

A ruck or forward, Christofidis came across to the Vultures this year and hasn’t looked back. Started off slow but has become one of the better rucks in the comp of late

Harry Lennon (Wilston Grange)

The Gorillas leader has really improved his fitness levels and has worked hard on his kicking which has provided a lot cleaner entries to our forward line from his wing position
