QAFL Colts: The footy coaches have had their say, rating their team’s efforts this season so far out of 10. Read your club’s rating, along with who were round 7’s best players.

Wow. What a round and what a couple of wins from Wilston Grange and Morningside.
And with Sherwood embedded in the top four, round 7 action on Saturday showed any side can beat anyone if the league leaders drop their guard.

Below we name the Players of the Round, but also ask each coach to give their side a rating out of 10 as we pass the one-third stage of the season.

PLAYERS OF THE ROUND
Ryleigh Utting (Sherwood)
In the midfield, Utting was enormous for the Magpies and had plenty of forward entries.
Jamie Preston (Sherwood)
Up forward, Preston was dangerous for Sherwood and played his role well. He also kicked three goals.
Zach Bidgood (Sherwood)
Playing as a forward/midfielder, Bidgood broke out of the clearances a number of times and consistently broke lines.
Angus Parnell (Sherwood)
Parnell, playing first as a midfielder and then up forward, was great around the stoppages and dangerous up forward.
Jules Cruice (Sherwood)
Cruice, in the midfield, was clean and clinical all day long for Sherwood
Alex Peacock (Sherwood)
Peacock worked hard all day and consistently got himself into a good position for his teammates to use. He played wing.

Dylan Patterson and Jasper Williams (PBC)
The rookie half forward Patterson did a fabulous job for the winners while Williams was enormous in the ruck for Palm Beach Currumbin.
Will Nesbitt (Wilston Grange)
Gorillas coach Darren Fazldeen said while Will “didn’t really play our best footy’’, he got the job done.
George Wood (Wilston Grange) and Maverick Garaicoa
Wood played half forward and presented well all day while also being excellent in the air while Maverick was dominant at the contest.
Jem Williams and the Gwynne brothers (Broadbeach)
Williams provided the type of solid performance down back that coaches dream over while the opposition might have throught they were seeing double through the midfield as the Gwynne brothers, captain Harry and Cooper, went to work.
Tom Bradley and Frankie Quinn (Aspley)
Quinn was as solid as a rock at the back while Bradley prowled the midfield before impacting the game up forward.
Matthew Bowart and Maddyx Taborsky (Aspley)
Bowart clutched some good marks while under 17 Div 1 player Taborsky was as solid as they come in the team’s defensive structure playing from the wing.
Harry Taylor and Bryce Longland (Morningside)
Taylor displayed a big motor purring across the midfield against quality opponents while the versatile Longland cashed in for his side up forward and also down back.
Zane Pearce and, Joey Wilson (Morningside)
Morningside claimed a big scalp and it all started in the midfield were Pearce and Wilson again set a high standard.
Tanner Griffiths (Morningside)
The Panthers were still in touch with their rivals entering the final term and that was due in large park to the courageous efforts of backman Tanner Griffiths.
Heath Seadon (Mt Gravatt)
Playing as a midfield/forward Seadon was a clean ball winner with a deadly left foot.
Cooper Mataia (Mt Gravatt)
This young player always presented well as a midfielder or forward. He just worked all day long.
Toby Price, Sam Catlow-Elliott, Harrison Reilly, Byron Rigby and Bailey Burrows all lead the way for the Redland Victoria Point boys.
Labrador foursome Tom Ray Jack Turner, Leo Johnston and Will Blackwood all earned high praise from their coach Rob Yoannidis.
The Matches
Sherwood 12-11-83 defeated Noosa 6-2-38
James Preston and Tom Gillett both kicked three goals as the Magpies consolidated a top four position by keeping a dogged Noosa scoreless in the final term.
Sherwood season rating 7 out of 10: “We have had a great start to the season but we have a few things to work on, said Sherwood coach Ben Jaenke-Cain: “
Aspley 10-7-67 to Mt Gravatt 5.8-38
Thomas Bradley kicked a bag full (five goals) as the Hornets were forced into a dogfight against a gutsy Mt Gravatt. The Vultures actually led by one point entering the final term, but Aspley finished with 5-1 in the last quarter to get the job done.
Asley season rating 6 out of 10. “We need to be more consistent over four quarters,’’ said coach Brett Atkins.
Atkins said in relation to Saturday’s win: “We responded really well in the last quarter after a terrible third quarter.’’
Mt Gravatt season rating 6 out of 10. “There is a lot of potential but the side is yet to play four quarters,’’ said Mt Gravatt coach David Greenaway:
Greenaway said of Saturday’s performance: “We played hard all day but couldn’t capitalise with the wind. Trusting each other and our processes will go a long way to us getting a win.
Morningside 8-5-53 to Maroochydore 6-5-41
The Panthers had a rousing victory over their north Coast side, surging from a 10 points deficit entering the last quarter to overrun their rivals - kicking 4-2. Morningside’s goals were shared among eight players.
Morningside season rating 6-7 out of 10
“It was a big win by the boys. The relentless effort and pressure from the 22 players is what I liked most,’’ said Morningside coach Ross Anderson.
Broadbeach 11.17-83 to Labrador 1.2-8
The Cats defence stood up in its big win which saw Liam Thom snared three goals, and Kai Covino and Jasper Knight two each.
Broadbeach season rating 7-10: “We are a work in progress on many aspects of our game,’’ said coach Lewis Chiodo.
Labrador season rating is 7-10 “due to the young group that continues to improve,’’ said coach Rob Yoannidis.
He added about the season: “As a group we continue to improve. We are moving the footy well at times and we have a never say die attitude. We continue to take risks and take the game on.
“Although we have not won a game that’s not our sole focus. It is about developing this young group for the years too come.’’
Wilston Grange 11.5-71 to Surfers Paradise 4.6-30
Wilston Grange’s green shoots continued to blossom with a win over Surfers Paradise. The Demons locked Wilston down in the third term, but the damage had been done and the Gorillas eased to victory despite another improved fourth quarter effort by the visitors.
Surfers Paradise season rating 5-10: “We’ve not been able to execute our game plan against strong teams,’’ said Demons coach Alistair Mitchell. He said the team’s 3-3 win-loss ratio reflected this. “We are still confident that our best footy matches the top sides. It is just a matter of consistency.’’
Wilston Grange season rating: 7-8 out of 10: Surfers coach Alistair Mitchell heaps praise on his rivals in what was their best win in some time. “I have to take my hat off to Wilston Grange. They were great today. We had a poor start and they took advantage of our small skill errors to jump us early. They then played consistent footy and didn’t allow is to get back into the game.’’
Palm Beach Currumbin 14.12-96 to Redland Victoria Point 5.4-34
PBC started like a train to boot 6-4-40 to 0-1-1 in the opening quarter and although the Sharks manned the pumps, the win was set up with that whirlwind opening. Mitch Beaufoy, Macklin Johnston and Dylan Patterson all kicked three for PBC.
PBC season rating 6 out of 10 with heaps of improvement left in the side
PBC coach Glen Clark: “We played good footy in the first half with our connection go forward, with our forwards creating space. Our second half saw us drop our effort which was disappointing. We are 6 out of 10 with still a lot to improve on.’’
Redland Victoria Point rating 7 out of 10: “We have come up against some really quality opponents however I am impressed with the way the boys are determind to stick to the game plan and structures and play for each other week in, week out,’’ explained Sharks coach Brian Zutt. “Big things are coming from this group.’’
