Marsden SHS year 9 student William Semu is the rookie out of a bunch of 40-odd schoolboys from the Langer Cup, Gee Cup and Walters Cup competitions signed by NRL clubs.
Semu, a centre, Wavell SHS Walters Cup pair Karl Oluapo (Brisbane Broncos) and Tom Lunney (Canberra) and Forest Lake SHS year 10 students Rene Bagon (Manly) and Brandon Tikinau (Titans) are among the youngest Queenslanders recruited by NRL clubs.
Semu will be in action during tomorrow’s Hancock Shield decider. That game, along with the Broncos Old Boys and Renouf Shield grand finals, will be livestreamed at www.couriermail.com.au from 1.30pm.
Semu, a centre, was the best player on display in the three grand final curtain-raiser matches leading up to last week’s Langer Cup decider won by Palm Beach Currumbin SHS over Keebra Park SHS.

He will again be a handful in tomorrow’s Hancock Shield decider.
Semu said the Gold Coast Titans junior development system was now “probably the best I have been in so far” and he was looking forward to training with star recruit David Fifita in the off-season.
The Gold Coast Titans and the Brisbane Broncos were the big winners in the recruitment stakes, with the Titans continuing to get their house in order by securing eye-catching schoolboy performers.
Titans have at least 11 Langer Cup/Walters Cup boys on their books including three of the best talents - Jahream Bula, Tom Weaver and Oscar Bryant.
The Broncos have around nine players signed. They include gun PBC prop Xavier Willison and outstanding St Mary’s College front row prospect Xavier Va’a.
