LANGER TROPHY

PBC 18 DEFEAT KEEBRA 6

Will Saunders (PBC)

The ruck specialist Saunders was a constant danger with his energy and speed running out of dummy-half but also knew when to put the blinkers on and serve his captain and halfback Zane Harrison.

He was one of the Three Musketeers who proved the difference with his footwork and speed.

Twice he flashed onto balls to score, once from a break by Will Saunders and another to reel in a grubber from Zane Harrison.

Zane Harrison (PBC)

Was the best player on the field. He was the maestro running the game with long or short kicks, and he even made several covering tackles to shut down dangerous Keebra raids.

He was an everywhere-man.

Jett Bryce (Keebra)

Bryce never gave in and never gave up, playing above his weight and displayed boundless energy.

Baylen Donald (PBC)

Donald was an all or nothing left edge performer.

Tough tackling, hard running and once even threaded through an attacking kick, chasing it down himself and reeling in the Keebra fullback Mason Barber before he could gather momentum.

Brady Turner (PBC)

Turner was the outstanding prop on the field in the opening exchanges and he set a high standard which was maintained across the game.

Mason Barber (Keebra)

There is no mystery why the Cowboys like this long-striding fullback, who Keebra tried to bring into the match pouring down the middle of the field in the second half. He deservedly scored a late try.

BRISBANE BRONCOS OLD BOYS

KEEBRA 18 DEFEAT PBC 12

Rico Fire (PBC)

Ford wore jersey No.13 but was doing everything a halfback does. He passed well both ways and had a towering bomb-kick which, in the wind, was impossible to catch.

Legend Gentles (Keebra)

The Keebra halfback was small but he had a lions heart, straightening the attack and testing PBC’s edge defence with his right to-left- shifts.

Jaxon Worthing (PBC)

The light-blue headgeared centre whose combination of height and strength allowed him to bend the Keebra Park defensive line.

He scored a wonderful try in the second half after winger Mason Szerszyn won the ball with a one-on-one strip.

Korde Panui and Devante Fagalilo (Keebra Park)

The ball-carrying of dynamic second rower Panui and the quick ruck service from Fagalilo worked wonders for the Keebra Park boys.

Panui loved taking on the defence, as did prop Papu Purcell and broad shouldered middle forward Micah Sheppard.

Centre Ayvree Wetere also had a highlight when he made a brilliant trysaving tackle down the right touchline.

RENOUF SHIELD

PBC 16 DEFEAT KEEBRA 10

Charlie Wood (PBC)

The young prop ran himself to a stand still on Tuesday, chewing up meters and getting PBC out of their end and well and truly into Keebra’s.

He was everywhere for his team.

Max Imrie (PBC)

The orange-headgeared dummy half was an expert decision maker and this was highlighted when he took a scoot from the ruck and scored.

He left no questions as to his service.

Jaylon Russell (PBC)

Jaylon Russell.
Jaylon Russell.

You know when you just know a kid’s got it? That’s Russell.

A fullback, Russell hasn’t hit his growth spurt just yet but when he does and if he still has that lethal footwork, PBC will have themselves a fleet-a-foot speedster lurking out the back.

Xavier Takatainga (Keebra)

Xavier Takatainga.

PBC were defensively terrific but the speedy Takatainga took no prisoners with his ferocious fend and astute defence.

Of course the clincher of his game was his in-and-away step which delivered Keebra both their tries.

Lincoln Mitchell (Keebra)

As we said above, PBC’s brick wall defence seemed almost impenetrable. But, Mitchell made inroads with his strong carries through the middle.

You could tell from the sidelines how passionate the prop was.

Dynari Aiolupo and Jet Rimaputa (Keebra)

Second rower Aiolupo and centre Rimaputa were tireless.

Both tall and strong, the pair of them threatened in the wide channels and proved a handful when given room to move.

High praise to fullback Will Hamblin who made a cracking try-saver at the beginning of the game.

HANCOCK CUP

KEEBRA 30 DEFEAT PBC 4

Ryan Holland (PBC)

In a back-end-forth first half where PBC started in front before Keebra clawed back to lead 10-4 at the break, winger Holland was impressive.

He finished a try in the right corner and made some strong tackles coming in off the wing.

He had a great feel of when to rush up and make a tackle.

Harvey Smith (Keebra)

Harvey Smith.
Harvey Smith.

Halfback Smith made everything happen in that first half. He kicked conversions, tackled the rollicking PBC forwards and if he wasn’t playmaking, he was threatening to score himself.

He was denied when he tried to crash over out of the ruck so minutes later he scored a 30 metre breakaway try after stealing possession.

Tyrell Schwenke (Keebra)

The back fence is where bollocking prop Tyrell Schwenke would start. The 30 metre line is where he would finish.

With him, Keebra could never be on the back foot.

Shadi Chami (Keebra)

Of course it was a mammoth team effort to score 30 points against a fiercely competitive PBC outfit.

Helping Keebra along though was impressive reserve rake Shadi Chami who came on and made an impact.

He gave his forward front foot ball and organised the attack impressively.

WALTERS CUP

After the first half softening up period, the classy Bryenton put his stamp on the second half with several dashing bursts.

The sturdy headgear wearing halfback was rock solid straightening the attack. He played a rugged role and at times was like an extra forward.

Tavake Tau’a’alo (Keebra)

He was a standout with his powerful leg drive exploding forward to give Keebra Park momentum.

Nelson Mafaaki (PBC)

Although well defended by Keebra, the big edge forward was a handful and threatened with most touches of the ball.

Cooper Murphy (PBC)

He was sharp with beautiful service out of dummy half – even under fatigue.

He never dropped his standards and scored a dive-over try from hooker which was one of only two in the game.

Josiah Faaoso and Ahston Hure (PBC)

Hure made a difference off the bench. A big body who was willing and able to take on the physical Keebra Park pack while Faaoso was up for the fight.

It was a gruelling battle but Faaoso never shirked his role in the middle.

Tomasi Vaitai (Keebra)

He was a bit like Mafaaki of PBC in that he was a threat in every meaning of the word.

LANGER RESERVES

KEEBRA 22 DEFEAT PBC 16

Isopo Taunuu (Keebra Park)

Taunuu was excellent through the middle of the field, bulldozing his way to an individual try just before half time.

Every carry of his put the team on the front foot.

Nayte Saaga (Keebra Park)

Saaga returned for just his third game of the season and boy was he influential through the middle, acting as the link player between the forwards and backs.

Saaga was deceptive with his ball playing skills, creating opportunities for those around him. Scored the match winning try through sheer will.
