GPS First XV: Teams playing for pride, passion and past as debutants line-up

GPS First XV rugby: Six families will be as proud as punch when the return of GPS First XV rugby features rookies on debut.

Six families will be as proud as punch when the GPS First XV rugby returns after a COVID-19 enforced lay-off.

Making their debuts for Toowoomba Grammar will be flanker Zander Jacobs and flying winger Will Nason, while Brisbane Grammar School’s winger Tom Stunden gets his run on debut after replacing Ryan Shaw (injured).

And premiers Brisbane Boys College will also feature two first time starters – flanker Charlie Archer and prop Zac Davis.

Also, Ipswich SHS will feature year 11 student Stanley Huen, who has come through the system from year 7.

It will be a huge moment in the lives of the six debutants as the GPS season restarts its engines for a three game burst after the heart of the competition was swept away by the COVID-19 lockdown.

If you think the teams will have nothing to play for after a decision not to contest premierships, then think again.

Pride, passion and upholding the tradition of past players will be on the line for the 2021 GPS First players.

It will also be a significant day for Brisbane Boys College, who will host Ipswich Grammar School.

BBC will celebrate its inaugural indigenous day sponsored by Alliance Airlines.

The college’s indigenous students have designed special jerseys, jumpers and socks to be worn by the Firsts, while a Welcome to Country ceremony will kickstart proceedings.
