GPS Basketball: See here the round 4 Players of the Week

The GPS Basketball Team of the Week includes a BBC three-point specialist with ice in his veins, a catch-and-shoot king from TGS and a Terrace big man who put on a defensive masterclass.

The Southport School, Brisbane Boys’ College, Gregory Terrace and Brisbane State High found the winners post in another dramatic round of GPS Basketball.

BBC were 100-99 overtime giant-killers of TGS, TSS were just too good for BGS winning 118-70 while Gregory Terrace were classy in their 88-60 victory over Ipswich Grammar.

Beofre a roaring home crowd celebrating the annual State High Day on Saturday, BSHS secured their first win of the season in convincing style, beating Nudgee 104-61.

Gregory Terrace recorded another win in round 4.

In a spectacle at BBC, Emerson Juhasz knocked down a crucial free throw with one second left in overtime, sealing a thrilling one-point-victory for the home side.

He smartly missed the second free throw to drown out the clock, meaning a full court heave was the only look Towoomba’s Samuel Geu could get for the win.

Charlie Hinson was Clutch with a capital C, draining several threes late in the fourth and then in overtime to come over the top of TGS who had a reasonably comfortable lead halfway through the final quarter.

Hinson sniped consecutive corner threes to keep BBC alive before a drive from Juhasz saw him seal the game at the penalty stripe.

See who joined Hinson and Juhasz in the GPS Basketball Players of the Week below.

BBC 100 beat Toowoomba Grammar 99

Zeke Byrne (BBC)

The BBC big man feasted down low early and then late in the second quarter when he helped BBC get back in the game.

But it was his dominance in the opening three minutes, where he scored a quick dozen, that was key to BBC’s success.

He didn’t take one jump shot, but he would’ve finished with at least 20 points shooting at over 80%.

His teammates recognised his height advantage and finding him was the way to an easy bucket.

He was an elite rim protector also.

Emerson Juhasz (BBC)

Juhasz just being on the floor would’ve given BBC confidence. He’s a big body who can handle the ball and get a bucket.

A three pointer of his midway through the fourth was the catalyst to a 8-2 run which clawed BBC within three down 82-79.

Then after Hinson found his range and gave BBC a chance with overtime, Juhasz iced the game with a matchwinning free throw.

Charlie Hinson (BBC)

The undersized guard had a quiet start but roared to life when it mattered most.

He was a fourth quarter hero with his corner threes sending BBC into overtime where they snatched victory.

Lee Van der Westhuizen (BBC)

Westhuizen was a primary scoring option for BBC and when they needed a score down the stretch, he finished a crucial lay-up in contact.

It was an incredible shot that gave BBC a chance to win the game.

The game then went into overtime and Westhuizen, not only a sharp shooter but also a lockdown defender, was pivotal in BBC’s strong start and brilliant comeback.

Arok Arok, Isaac Barac and Keahn Tuakura (TGS)

The interchangeable Toowoomba big men were all equally impressive. Tukura was a game defender of Byrne, and a clinical finisher late in the game when he hit a couple of clutch overtime lay-ups.

Isaac was a threat from deep and a solid rim protector, as was Samuel Geu who came alive defensively in overtime to thwart any BBC drives.

Arok was productive in limited minutes.

Rahul Captain (TGS)

Captain was a sniper from deep. In the first half, every shot he took looked sweet out of the hands and he answered the call when TGS found themselves struggling to defend Byrne.

When Byrne scored two, Captain scored three.

Tyler Saul (TGS)

The hyped-up Toowoomba shooting guard was a terrific boost off the bench.

Coach Kabe Cicolini gave him a chance and a buzzer-beating three pointer, a couple of buckets and a tough and-one later and he was a MUST down the stretch.

Brisbane State High 104 defeat Nudgee College 61

Roman Siulepa (BSHS)

Siulepa activated beastmode again with countless ferocious dunks and fast break assists giving onlookers plenty of highlights to enjoy.

Mr Consistent was at it again, leading the team in rebounds and threatening with every touch.

The two of them were stellar defensively, making life a living hell for the Nudgee back-court.

While Ipswich Grammar coach Jason Ralph could not get his boys over the line against Gregory Terrace, he was able to bring the city of Ipswich their first ever State Title when he captained the Ipswich Force to their NBL1 North championship on the same day.

Ralph had 10 assists in the game-three-decider against reigning champions the Gold Coast Rollers, their second win in a row after losing game one of the series.

The champion coach’s best from Saturday’s clash against Gregory Terrace was the athletic Harry McCauliffe, a shot-blocking forward who carries the scoring load for the side.

Papacostas put on a defensive masterclass and was an elite rebounder which allowed his team to score easy buckets in transition.

It all started with his defence.
